As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly.
As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly.
Labour supporters (including, astonishingly, Tom Harris) keep banging on about this "Take a second look at us" quote from Gordon Brown as if it was an act of sheer political brilliance. Let's look at the paragraph in full, shall we?
“I know that Labour hasn’t done everything right and I know I’m not perfect… take a second look at us and take a long hard look at them.”
I heard the clip on 5 Live News earlier and I have to say, it was said in such sepulchral tones that it sent a shiver down my spine. It conjured up a scene from Inspector Morse, or Midsomer Murders where the detective discovers a body and then returns a second time to make sure it's dead.
Or as a friend of mine put it, it's like a dog returning to its vomit and eating it. What a nice vision for you to contemplate over your nightly Horlicks.
One other thing from today's mini election launch. It was noticeable that there was no set. The TV pictures were mixed, to say the least. Is this yet another sign of Labour's poor finances, that they couldn't even afford to build a set to launch their election campaign from. It would never have happened in Tony's day.
My contempt for Brown is total, he has no policies, no ideas how to get the country out of the mess he's created, it is pure self interest - all he can do is criticise the conservatives - God help us is we have to put up with another 5 years of this cretin
You can look at a turd as often as you like, it still retains its inherent turdiness no matter how many views or how much polish is applied.
What Labour need to do is take a very good at themselves and select a political model that isn't a turd.
And it's not just Labour who could do with learning that little lesson...
Proverbs 26:11 As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly.
Was the phrase I think you were looking for.
Where's Mandleson gone?!
Ay but here's the rub. Every media outlet from BBC downwards (or upwards depending on your view of the Labour propaganda arm) is regurgitating this utter garbage as if it is some sort of edict from the next messiah. Meanwhile Mrs Dromey bangs on about "fairness" without a hint of irony about how her husband is not subject to the selection process of other candidates.
They know they are finally finished - their polling has confirmed this.
In 11 weeks time,we shall be in day two post-Gordon Brown, never to have to watch him, hear him or dread the thought of having to endure another lie from this odious man.
After the past 13 years,we can at last see the light at the end of the tunnel and behind us,Gordon Brown fades to another shade of grey and then total obscurity, leaving all 60 million of us to pick up the pieces.
It seems that there is a clear strategy emerging in all this though....... firstly we have Brown's appearance on Piers Morgan last weekend attempting to cynically attract the "sympathy vote" and "humanise" his appeal...then we get his speech at Warwick to-day where he said "I know that I'm not perfect but....." and then the quoted "Second Look" phrase.
Brown and Labour have already told their activists to avoid mentioning their record in government over 13 years when canvassing and to concentrate on their future plans for recovery and to attack their opponents by highlighting the risk to that recovery posed by the Conservatives and alluding to the "Wolf" hiding behind Cameron's affable face.
They know that they cannot fight the election on their record and have therefore picked the only strategy left open to them
You must be joking, like Livingstone, once hopefully chucked out of office, Brown will be on the BBC regularily, telling all and sundry how he would have done things differently
** Of course with , incredibly, so much of the media dancing to his tune (OMG headline item on BBC News) , and all those postal votes already being prepared, it's still far from certain.........
Credit where credit is due Mr Dale - your biblical quote is brilliant.
After 13 years of Labour - just why should we need to take a second look?
Fairness ? Britain is categorically less equal now than 13 years ago.
Proverbs 26:25 "When he speaketh fair, believe him not: for there are seven abominations in his heart."
No set? What sort of madness is this?
Tom Harris has party loyalty running through his veins, but of late, he appears to have burst an aorta.
Iain, as the election nears and the polls close, you are getting so crass with your posts.
You used to come across as a thoughtful Tory. Now this blog just stinks of biased panic and frustration.

A future Fu**d for all
Take a second look.
Brown's speech is best summed up as "Fur coat no knickers."
I've had a 'second look' at Labour. At first I thought that they were simply incompetent. After my 'second look' I now realise I was wrong. Their policies have been deliberately crafted to ruin Britain (formerly known as Great Britain 'GB').
It has already been admitted that they deliberately opened the floodgates on immigration to change the make-up of the country and create a multiculural society and more Labour voters in the process. They have used grade inflation to bring down standards in state schools. They have dropped subjects such as history and classics etc and replaced them with easier ones. They have watered down the value of going to University by trying to send more and more people there to study useless subjects - a generation of people with media studies degrees etc. They've had policies to keep criminals out of prison with dire consequences. ASBOs are are nothing but a badge of honour. They have lumbered the police with paperwork and turned them into politial correctness obssessives. They've encouraged drinking with their barmy 24 hour licensing. They have encouraged an already indebted society to gamble in their supercasinos. They have forced us into a Federal Europe with an unelected President and ministers, having reneged on a promise of a referendum. They allowed the banks to get completely out of hand and help ruin the economy with their own(Govt.) wreckless spending. They have deliberately wasted taxpayers money on Quangos, consultants, NHS managers and bizarrely titled and meaningless but highly-paid jobs. They have deliberately plotted to destroy the traditional family by encouraging single motherhood through benefits and by devaluing the role of the Father. They have ordered the teaching of explicit sex to younger and younger children with devestating results of pre-teenage pregnancies and STDs, and their response is 'we need more sex education (and for five-year-olds). They have encouraged over-zealous social services to remove children from good families while ignoring serious abuse cases.
Labour have hugely underfunded and criminally under-equipped our armed foces and sent them into protracted wars thousands of miles from our borders on flimsy evidence to face a largely unseen enemy that plants bombs and picks off our brave and very young soldiers.
They have overblown and mismanaged our NHS. They have imposed targets which has led to pressure on staff and to sick patients being discharged too early (if they are lucky enough to survive the deadly cocktail of hospital viruses and infections).
Labour is the enemy of freedom. They have abused the use of CCTV and speed cameras to spy on people and raise revenues. They have cashed in on the terrorist threat as an excuse to charge anyone who tries to protest against them (or shout 'rubbish' at Jack Straw).
Gordon Brown has pledged billions of our money to fight the now hotly discredited man-made global warming religion without listening to the scientists who disagree (calling them flat-earthers).
Yes, take a 'second look' at Labour. Take a look at Harriet Harman, Balls-Cooper, Mandelson etc.
