Could Brown Call an Election This Week?

Do you know what I would do if I were Gordon Brown?

I'd consider going to see the Queen this afternoon and call an election.

Think about it. Why not?

It depends whether or not Broon receives a call from his employers in Brussels instructing him to call one.

He hasn't got it in him. It means he has to make a decision - all by himself

FonyBlair said...

Because that means making a decision and it's Gordon Brown we're talking about!

Brown is the sort of guy who would but maybe thats the plan all along by Hoon and Hewitt, force a Ge before it gets any worse and not let Brown hold on and on and on.

Iain - I think you're absolutely right. Having a leadership contest now is ridiculous even though it's the right thing to do, simply because we're only 12 weeks or so away from the election campaign.

Because he has no chance of winning. But then if he thinks he's going to get ousted anyway...

This really is The Thick Of It.

Tory Bear reports:

"Also another spectacular scoop for The New Statesman's political wizard James Macintyre. Just last night he outed, completely incorrectly, that Tessa Jowell was behind the plotting."

I think you'll find I said much the same thing last night when you reported the wonderful insights of the worst political journalist of a generation.

Is he this crap on purpose do you think?

I think we should be told.

Step forward (please) James Purnell!

Seems to be a theme forming.....imagine him at a road junction. Do I turn left, do I turn right, do I turn around? All safe in the deluded view that what ever direction he goes in, it was the right one, taken prudently and weighing up all the options. Oh yes, with Ed Balls and Mandelson as the squabling back seat drivers....

Iain, he hasn't got the guts. He'll be back in the bunker for the next seven days.

Surely any Election campaign would be dominated by the internal problems of Labour, the fact that Brown chose a GE over the Secret Ballot because he feared that even Labour MP's did not believe he was the right man to lead Labour, let alone the country.

It would take the focus off Conservative policies and onto personalities - that would be disastrous for Labour.

Bring it on!

Brown should have called an election for sometime in December 2009. He would have mitigated defeat for Labour then.

Now Gordon Brown and Labour are just hanging on as Hitler did in 1945. The Country is going to experience more long term pain because Labour are playing internal party squabbles whilst the country continues to experience problems.

Within the next few hours we will see the cabinet rally round the leader but it does not negate the obvious disunity within the labour party and can only benefit the conservative party and rightly so.

Also on a good note it has finally thrown the snow of the main headline.

If Gordon Brown is to work hard to bring Britain out of this global cooling episode the distraction of a General Election must be removed and Nulabour allowed to rule in perpetuity (subject to EU Commission approval).

Gordon Brown should call an Election this week, if he has any sense of responsibility.

NJW said...

They should hurry up and get the cabinet guns out and support the PM its ridiculous that so far only Geraldine Smith has come on the news to support the Dear Leader.

Although as a conservative supporter im loving this.

Because he's incapable of taking the initiative. Think back, is there one instance of him seizing a moment in his entire political life?

Go on, Snot Goblin, go nuke! That'll show 'em.

Weatherman says that this cold spell is going to last weeks. Just think, if he nips round to see Queenie this afternoon, we could have a new government by the time the nice weather comes back.

Iain - did you see the Bleeding Heart Show's piece comparing bloggerwars to rappers' beefs? Hilarious - though a bit sharp towards you. Worth a plug in the Daley Dozen, I would have thought! Bit old now, but then I've been away for the new year.

Why would anyone vote for a party, when its leader had called an election simply to avoid that party giving him the boot?

Also, in such circumstances, I think the the Queen could simply accept Brown's resignation and invite another Labour Party member to form a temporary government while the leadership issue was resolved.

If this vote takes place (and I reckon there's a reasonable chance that it will), it is bad news indeed for the Conservative Party as there is bound to be a good bye Gordon bounce in Labour support.

I'm beginning to think Armando Ianucci has a crystal ball. If he is, then right now, Alistair Campbell, or someone like him, is taking exactly this decision for Brown, mid-conversation with Hattie.

The vote could take place, but it will require a higher level of agreement among MPs to oust Brown than is required to trigger a conventional leadership election. He could still dig in if it was indecisive.

McLoser is a COWARD. He will be sitting in Downing Street the day after the election (he will have to be dragged to see the queen to call an election by the way) rocking back and fowards probably with a tinfoil hat on and sucking his thumb sitting under a table, a smashed Nokia and a fax machine lying strewn around him.

The white van will pull up outside and all the press will be there, two men will enter No 10 carrying some leather belts and after a while the one eyed mad man will be gently walked outside. But as soon as the try to put him in the back of the van, he'll start screaming "I am the Furher, I am the great leader, I saved the world you BASTARDS!" and start to run back into No10. The nurses will then have to drag him out by his feet as his nails dig into the ground leaving a trail of blood on the floor as his bitten chewed nails dig into the plush carpet.

Finally McMental will be carted off to start a new life as 'Gordon in cell 6'

Why not?

Only reason is because he is instinctively lacking in courage and would sooner just hang on with his finger nails until someone puts him out of his misery.

There has been an announcement from the McDowning Street Bunker:

The Prime Minister is 'Getting on with the Job'.

Translation, continuing his mission of bankrupting and destroying the ancient Nation of England.

gordon dont believe in elections. he elbowed blair out the way for the job and now hes hanging on for dear life. it makes me sick when i see him reading out the dead soldiers names at question time.when did he get any type of mandate from the british public to send anyone into harms way, well he never. he should of called a general election as soon as he took over from blair but he did'nt. how can he be taken seriously when he wont go to the people. even the crackpot in iran was elected by the people but we have to put up with this shambles of a government because we are not allowed to vote him out untill his choosing. well we never voted for you and you have no right to destroy this country with short term selfish attitude towards the british electorate.go or call an election you coward.

Does Gordon Brown do elections ? Labour leadership ? - No. Prime Minister ? - No. EU Referendum - No ? Maybe he will step down. I just can't imagine him on one of these live leadership debates. He's incapable of answering a question (as shown on PMQs).

Labour is brimming with suitable candidates for PM. There's....erm....howabout the Milliband Brothers (Banana Man and the Watermelon).

Lord Palmerston said...

He won't because it's winter and bad weather keeps Labour voters at home.

It'll be Tony Blair all over again. The Labour Party are asking us to vote for Gordon Brown, but whether they win or lose, they'll be giving him the boot anyway.
So exactly who will we be getting if we vote Labour? Surely this needs an answer.
