Playing to my Handicap

I can hardly believe it's 15 months since I last played golf, but there you go. Today I played 18 holes at Kings Hill, near West Malling. It's one of my favourite courses. I've played it dozens of times but somehow the course always throws up a new challenge, which I think is the test of a good golf course.

Whenever I play after a long break I usually play really well, and then go to pieces if I then play again within a week or two. And so it proved today. I think for the first time in my life I hit the ball well off all 18 tees - usually I scuff it at least once. And in the end I got 33 points using the Stableford scoring system.

I really must try to play more often. It's good exercise and I actually left my Blackberry in the car, so had four hours without any communication from the outside world. Which was nice.

You speak sooth, Iain. It's necessary to leave the world behind sometimes.

A while back I went on leave. I set up my email to say "Sean is away on leave. If it's urgent, please contact someone else." The only person who complained was a family member!

Please Iain, for the love of God, not golf.

In case you hadn't noticed, the blog is called Iain Dale's Diary, not Iain Dale's news site :)

When I was playing, all my attempts at a draw would fade and all my attempts at a fade would draw. So I pretended to attempt a fade in order to draw, but the darn thing faded. It was at that point that I gave up.

Iain, it may be your diary but that was an exceptionally dull post compared to all the other exciting things you do.
