On Blogging

Matthew Sinclair's post ON BLOGGING is well worth a visit. As is Devil's Kitchen on the same subject. Perhaps Richard North would like to climb back into his pram and pick his toys up before he does so.

Labour blogger Mike Ion has written on CommentIsFree about blogging too.

I recently blogged about this issue on the Guardian's Comment is Free site -

Blogs do matter and yes blogs are having an influence. Blogs are less important because of their direct effects on politics than their indirect ones - they influence important actors within mainstream media who in turn frame issues for a wider public. Blogs are therefore becoming ever more important in politics and to politicians, and are likely to remain so.

As soon as I read it, I knew that your posting on Des and DE&S would attract Richard's ire if he ever came across it...!

I was at the RSA recently for a Radio 4 recording of "Iconoclasts" - it was the ritual lynching of holocaust (sorry, climate-change) denial demon Bjorn Lomborg.

Ed Stourton (for it was he) introduced one Dr Richard North from the Social Affairs Unit, and a jolly discussion ensued.

At the end, the introduction had to be re-recorded, for our panelist insisted that he was Richard "D" North, without the doctorate. I can now see why he would wish not to be confused. (But I wonder what Al-Beeb's producers were expecting?)

Humourless, grinding blogging of the sort the real Doctor favours will make the whole thing about as exciting as going to Chapel, followed by Lady Whiteadder's Turnip Brunch.

Any chance we can have him run out of town - preferably on a pantomime horse - before he has OffBlog checking our seriousness quotients at ten minute intervals?

(oh B*%@~##s, forgot the swearblogging bit)

Whatever happened to the official Labour Conference blogger?

Richard North reminds me of the fat kid at school who never gets picked for sports team and then wallows in self pity and hates everybody.

Rejected by Conservatives, UKIP, newspapers and now bloggers he needs to get over his bitterness and carve out a niche for himself.

I find Richard North's to be one of the most interesting in the UK blogosphere. He certainly investigates and writes about what nobody else can be bothered to.

At least he's not just a trendy me-too gossip blog.

Yes, who can bear those those trendy me-too gossip blogs?

Stick with the original.

I read EUReferendum regularly. I consider it to be one of the best compiled blogs available. Richard's expertise on defence and EU matters complemented by Helen's more philosophical postings provide a rich source of information and analysis.

I think Richard is driven (and perhaps, therefore, a touch brusque) but that's not necessarily a bad thing and his Qanagate report will at some time have lasting implications for the msm. The fact that so many bloggers chipped in and made it a mini wikipaedia shows how wide is the respect for the job done by the blog.

I dont like the tone between Iain and Richard and I hope both will stop being self indulgent and get on with their good work separately.

I thought you might all find this article interesting. It discusses the role of established media versus the proliferation of online content.

"Rejected by Conservatives, UKIP, newspapers and now bloggers "

I think it's the other way around. Richard doesn't tolerate ineptitude.
