Congratulations to Alan Duncan
Many congratulations to Alan Duncan and his partner James Dunseath who announced their civil partnership today in Her Majesty's Daily Telegraph. I'm delighted for them. When Alan was speaking for the Conservatives on the civil partnership legislation in 2004 he probably never thought he would be a beneficiary of it. Credit where credit is due. Labour brought in the Act and it has brought happiness to many thousands of people.

Good for Alan Duncan. I went to a civil partnership ceremony recently and for the life of me I cannot understand the opposition to them.
Not sure I see the point but if it makes the gayers happy ....
I dont agree with this law at all.
It is against my beliefs. However I do wish them well.

And commiserations to the very long list of Tory MPs who voted no or, didn’t bother to vote on the Bill
Its a shame these arrangements aren't open to other people - such as the two maiden aunts case so often brought up. Plenty of other people could do with recognition and protection by the law also !
I have to side with Johnny Norfolk here since my beliefs are based on religious revelations over a period of millennium, not client politics of the last 10 years.
Personally, I don't know why people can't call a spade a spade and call it marriage.

Alan Duncan is about to enter into a contract of mutual trust.
It is a declaration of faith, of faith in one human being to protect and care about another.
I do not worship at the shrine of Dorothy, but please, do not deny this man his public commitment to a lasting friendship.
The right thing is to wish him well for the future.

Are you sure they're not based on realpolitik conventions formed during a period of proto-empire building in the middle of a desert and the prejudices of a roman convert? Just checking.

I don't know why on earth they have announced their civil partnership to the Daily Telegraph. The Daily Telegraph has denigrated and vilified gay people for years (for example through the poisonous articles of Tom Utley), and it continues to do so.
Civil partnerships may be against the beliefs of Johnny Norfolk and Man in a Shed, but so what? It is interesting how selective people are when it comes to biblical beliefs (or what they believe to be in the Bible); religion is often used as a front for ignorance and bigotry. Man in a Shed certainly only has a passing knowledge of biblical interpretation over the centuries.
You should get out more Shedman and Mr Norfolk. Welcome to the third millenium.
Congrats to Mssrs Duncan and Dunseath. Mind you being an enthusiastic trouser pilot and amateur atheist I would say that wouldn't I?
