Just as I was beginning to have hopes for you Iain you post tripe like this.

I have an enormous regard for La Coulter. She tells it like it is, and does it with humour, precision and wit.

If you had one tenth of her insight your blog would be a good deal more interesing.

Coulter has a certain turn of phrase, but Dale sums her up pretty accurately. She's clearly bright, but seems to be suffering from a form of political Tourettes. It wouldn't surprise me if she turned out to be a creation of Chris Morris.

Oh please... even staunch conservatives like Robert Conquest, Ronald Radosh and Richard Pipes raised objections to the way Coulter distorted their work on the history of Stalinist Russia.

It's really sad that American conservatism has become so intellectually and politically bankrupt that this moronic lovechild of Paris Hilton and Michael Moore is taken seriously.

There’s not much point in me commenting on Donal’s blog. He doesn’t let me through – so much for his commitment to free speech. But I notice he’s now added the following update:

My good friend Iain Dale (yes, I have gay friends, oh left-wing conspiracists) bemoans my defence of Coulter and decries her as a homophobic bigot. In doing so, Iain demeans himself, I fear. You're right on so much, Iain. But your hysterical reaction towards Coulter is beneath you, my friend. Read her books and then we can discuss her merits like rational conservatives...

Crickey! Is Donal seriously suggesting that reading her books is going to help? As someone who has actually ploughed through Godless, I can tell you that Coulter is simply appalling – the perfect embodiment of that most lethal combination of arrogance and ignorance. Truly contemptible.

Is 'polemicist' a profession? Could be, since 'socialite' appears to have become one...

'Telling it like it is' is not a strong point per se. There is such a thing as courtesy, thank God.

Your link to John Redwood is incorrect, but if you finally get there the article is interesting.

Ah, Donal Blaney. Please, please, please keep him talking. Every time he opens his mouth a floating voter goes over to the LibDems. Dave from PR can never wash the stains away :)

Iain, you do realise it is very obvious when Parliament is not sitting from the rather futile attempts to drum up something vaguely interesting on this blog ???

Why don't you, as sometime fans of Frank Field, cover this latest idea of his for 'successful people' [copyright Iain Dale Enterprises] to give a bit of their dosh to charidee.

And then, for a bit of light and shade, Andy 'Bonkers' Burnham's plans, sorry, 'aspirations' to give our kids 5 hours of what he calls 'culture' a week.

The idea of having Andy Burnham decide what constitutes 'culture' for our yoof should have readers rolling in the aisles...

"I can tell you that Coulter is simply appalling" - no need for me to make up my own mind, then. Whatever else la Coulter has done, she earned my eternal gratitude for her economical, graceful, hilarious and deadly put-down of Paxman.

She was good on Newsnight, revealing Paxman's pomposity. He clearly expected some redneck hick unable to string a sentence together or hold a coherent thought, and as such did no preparation for his interview. He came off much worse.

I've read 'Godless', though, which was the subject of that interview and it is utter sh'te. That said, I've also read 'Treason' and 'Slander', both of which are much better polemics and quite entertaining.
