Controversy On 18DoughtyStreet Tonight

On 18DoughtyStreet from 9pm tonight I'll be joined by four bloggers, Kerron Cross, Paul Burgin (aka Mars Hill), Andrew Ian Dodge, Karen Allen and Stephen Tall. We'll be discussing Bob Piper's little spot of bother and much more besides.

Before that at 8pm I'll be going head to head with Tim Montgomerie defending my stance on Iain Duncan Smith's comments yesterday, and Tim will be having a right old spat with Donal Blaney about his pro-Pinochet views. So all in all, it promises to be quite a controversial evening at 18 Doughty Street.

Oh yes, and Iain too!

Do you know Iain, I'm bloody glad I got right of my telly.

Clearly this internet lark is the way to go.

But I have a suggestion. Isn't it a waste having 18DS sitting idle all day long ? Couldn't you do a morning show from 11 [when I get up] with a lady, in the manner of Richard & Judy ?

Then after lunch what about an Oprah style show on the sofa ? You could call it 'Dahlia' [TM]. Clearly it would be a little cosy to have a 'studio audience' or Jerry Springer style fisticuffs.

So a 'wine club / book club vibe' may be more in your vein. And you could get some lodgers in to the rooms upstairs for a 'big bother' [sic] type 'in-fill' between the shows....Just a thought..

I watched it for the first time tonight. White spods in suits.

Technically, the sound needs a bit of improvement but the debate on Pinochet scared me a lot.

Your panelist Donal's defence of the Pinochet regime was outrageous. If the Conservative Party has people like him associated with it, I'm voting anything but Tory. Luckily this guy Tim balanced things a bit.

What is an free-market economy without free speech? What good is low inflation when your father is being tortured? Who cares about low interest rates when your sister is shot by a death squad. What good is pension reform when your can't vote freely?

Sadly Pinochet, like so many dictators (Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Franco, Mussolini, Pol Pot, Ceaucescu etc), has gone to the grave without a trial. Why do they all get away with it?

Can't view a thing. It just sticks at connecting. Been like that from the beginning. Have no problems with anybody else so what's different about 18 Doughty Street's streaming

Unfortunately, 18DS's stream would not run on my PC this evening (it usually works fine). But tonight, neither the video nor the audio stream would work. Drat, I was looking forward to listening. Hopefully it'll all be in the archives.

Excellent show last night. You and Zoe do a smashing job together. Pity I missed Donal and Tim's ding-dong.

i had the same problem last night. it just stuck on "connecting.." , which was unusual as i've been able to watch doughty without a problem before.

same problem tonight Iain.

dont want to be paranoid - but in the absense of your technical guy announcing a change - then the only thing i can think of is that a block on doughty street has been implemented by my ISP.

could you find out Iain? maybe it is a technical issue. but if it isnt... hmmm..
