Blogger Bob Piper Under Fire for 'Racist' Spoof

Oh dear. My old mucker Councillor Bob Piper may be in the brown stuff. Click HERE to see why. The increasingly unmissable Prague Tory blog first made an issue of this on Friday.

Nice one Bob. Leave it up. If we dish it out we should take it and not be bloody whingers.

This is not a very pleasant piece of satire, but isn't the point that he is not the author of it ? It was provided by a 'Tory' blog called something like 'The Ministry and Truth' or suchlike.

That said, he's a bit of a dipstick not to take it down now the shit has hit the fan, and bloody stupid if he doesn't realise why it is offensive.

I was the first blogger to raise this. My issues were that the material was not appropriate for political discourse and that I wanted to support the BME poster who was offended. This is not a freedom of speech issue as Bob was quite entitled to do as he pleased (with the attendant consequences). As most of the subsequent bloggers linked to me without my encouragement the traffic to Bob's and Ministry Of Truth's site was generally from mine. As such I have been sunject to nothing less than a campaign of abuse from Bob and MoT over the last few days. This incident may be a prelude to my cessation from blogging. I am in a period of reflection. I will not be commenting again on this thread.

Forgot to add the hoodie.

Did Bob Piper actually do the 'creative work' himself or did he just stumble upon it and feature it on his site?

A more prosaic point is that surely there is a copyright infringement of the 'Sort-It' logo used originally in the 'tosser' campaign.

Couldn't whoever produced it [karmarama?] sue over breach of that copyright ? Watch this space...

Going going gone... although well spotted by a poster..it's not totally gone !

Surley this should be addressed under Labour race hate legislation,

After all if the general public have to follow the rules why not Labour councilors.

Bob's reversed. Black humour is no laughing matter.

Well, I put a comment on his website suggesting that councillors should not get involved in "grown-up" politics, but he deleted it and immediately added "moderation" to the site. Perhaps it was my other sentence, that perhaps he wouldn't be a councillor for much longer, that decided him!

Another example of the power of bloggers to make the news!

herbert g,

If your comment got deleted it was because after I took the post down a whole torrent of very unpleasant racist abuse was launched on the site, presumably organised by one of the fascist websites. In order to spare people this stuff, hich contained very nasty homophobic language, I deleted the posts and put comment moderation on. If yours got caught up in that I'm sorry... you could send it again.

For those seeking clarification, no, I didn't create the image (lack of photoshop skills I'm afraid) but I take full responsibility for posting it on the site.

Anonymous... there was not any race hatred in this post. It may have been somewhat insensitive, but race wasn't actually the point.

As the Tory Party are renowned for being racist, spoofing Dave ain't a problem. I suspect the Beeb will not be bringing back the Black and White Minstrel Show. Where do you draw the line? It's all getting rather hazy. I recall the policeman who clipped a black youth and called him a black bastard and getting off with the charge. Are we still allowed to call a Christmas tree that or has it been changed to a green triangular pointy thing yet?

No room for any humour in Blairs/Browns Britain

Yes racist stuff from the Sandwell Councillor. Very unpleasant and nasty. I expect he will have driven away many regulars with that stuff. I have already reported him to the Commission for Racial Equality and the Standards Board of the Labour Party. I don't know if anything can be done about this nasty little man, but hopefully others will register their disgust at this racism.

What a cretinous hypocrite this Piper is! I hope he gets his just desserts from anyone who's voted for him in the past.

Even If Bob Piper is a Socialist (and that's bad enough ) I really think this is a storm in a teacup. I've read his website stuff and to me he seems to be a decent bloke.
I don't think it's racist,(if ill advised) and it's absurd that such a fuss is being made. This is the Britain we live in. It's going down the tubes.
Bob should have realise it was ill advised, after all the BBC stopped the Back and White Minstrels show .....due to political correctness.

Not funny but not worth getting worked up about either.

I bet you manage to get over it.

I recently watched a Greek TV programme that featured a Black & White minstrel. They thought it was fine! What's wrong with Britain?

This stuff is tasteless - just as has been some of Guido's stuff (e.g Gordon Brown using his kid's illness for publicity) and even somethings on this blog from time to time.

The blogosphere needs to think up some appropriate sanctions for dealing with such statements - at least Bob Piper has exercised some self censorship. If it doesn't someone else eventually will - ask yourself how Mrs Thatcher would have reacted?

This confirms every impression I have ever formed about Bob Piper.
