Sky News at 11.30pm

I only alert you to my appearance tonight on Sky News at 11.30pm to do their paper review, because last time I was on with my co-guest Stephen Day, I was told by Sky that it was one of their best and funniest paper reviews ever. Indeed, I got loads of emails and texts afterwards. Personally, I thought the whole half hour was car crash TV, but everyone else, it seemed, loved it. Why?

Well, Stephen Day is a comedian and somewhat outrageous. He is also 70% deaf, and unless he is looking at you, doesn't know what you are saying. So when he is sat between the presenter and me, he's oblivious to one of us. And he plays it up for all it's worth. His deafness is part of his act, and while I was somewhat uncomfortable about the whole experience at the time, it seemingly made for great TV. I am sure lightning won't strike twice and tonight it won't be as funny, but just in case, you might like to tune in at 11.30pm to hear our thoughts on Lloyds/HBOS, Nick Clegg and whatever else is in tomorrow's papers.

Does this say something for Brown & Darling comptence and the likely disaster awaiting the UK economy if a recent big cheese at HBOS is now looking into Mortgage market regualtion: HBOS is the UK's primary mortgage provider? They are also in trouble!

Sir James Crosby: Halifax, FSA and Gordon Brown. The link!!!!!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sir_James_Crosby

After working for financial services company Scottish Amicable for ten years from 1977, and founding wealth management firm St James Place plc. in 1991,[1] Crosby joined the Halifax bank in 1994 as Managing Director of Halifax Life.[2] Five years later, he became the chief executive of Halifax plc, and in 2001 Crosby became the first chief executive of the newly-formed HBOS Group after overseeing the merger between Halifax plc and the Bank of Scotland.[3] Crosby left this position in July 2006,[4] leaving HBOS as the fourth largest bank in the United Kingdom in terms of market capitalisation. In 2006, Crosby also received a knighthood for services to the financial industry.[5]

[edit] After HBOS
On 11 July 2006, Crosby was appointed by the then Chancellor of the Exchequer, Gordon Brown, to lead the Government's Public Private Forum on Identity Management, a scheme designed to counter problems such as identity fraud.[6]

In addition to non-executive roles at the FSA and television company ITV, Crosby is also a trustee of the British charity Cancer Research UK.[7]

In April 2008, Crosby was appointed by Chancellor Alastair Darling to head up a Working Group of mortgage industry experts to advise the Government on how to improve the functioning of the mortgage market.

I thought it was great. Stephen is really incisive. The classic paper review duo back together.
I had a great political geeking day. News of the 52% poll, drinks with Francis Maude (who I told about the 52%, FM:'I'll take that') and then our very own Dale on the telly.
As a great Tory once wrote:

and so home to bed.

I thought the tie design was lifted from the Total Politics website, myself...

Perhaps Sky should consider Gordon Brown as he is 100% self-inflicted deaf.
Wouldn't get many laughs though.

Excellent 30mins - you, Stephen and the lovely Anna, your post diverted me from Radio 5Live to watch!

The tie was a West Ham season ticket holder tie, surely..!! :-)
