Naming the New Tory Party Blog

The Conservative Party's new blog will be called one of the following...

  • Conflab
  • The Blue Room
  • The Blue Blog
  • Speakers' Corner
  • Out of the Blue
Not exactly, er, cutting edge. I'd go for the Blue Blog personally.

I think Con and Flab are both unwise syllables to "plump" for ..*he chortled*and if it has to be blue why not Electric Blue .

The Bum Hole?

*Confab* would have been a better suggestion, as it avoids including the word "flab" and means the same thing...

Blue? So its run by Bob Monkhouse is it?

I hope this is not a foretaste of the level of inventiveness to come.

I would call it "The Pension Starts at 65 Gordon" ... I agree that adding " - you lying bastard" would be gratuitous, albeit true.

The Blue Bog?

Archbishop Cranmer said...

One could go for a hint of European.

How about Sacré Bleu?

Cranmer - touche.
Top notch.
And from an atheist such as me, that is high praise. If that's not tautologous.

Conflab - sounds like some sort of bacterial growth.

The Blue Room - just sounds rubbish.

The Blue Blog - sounds like a website about movies of an adult nature.

Speakers' Corner - Kind of redundant as we won't be speaking orally, but probably the best of a bad bunch.

Out of the Blue - too many pun opportunities by the media.

not a great choice LoL - but what do I care? I won't be visiting a propaganda site anyway.

After the total demise of Webcameron - I doubt the Tories can ever get the internet right..

How about 'Conservative Policy Forum' Ah but there will be nothing to write about.

True Blue?

Ian, you say the names aren't exactly cutting edge and then choose the only one with the word 'blog' in it.

'The Blue Room' it has to be!

Ed said...

'Out of the blue' please.

Please not 'The Blue Blog', it will become known, pejoratively, as the 'The Blue Bog' in no time at all.

The "Sorry, this blog has been closed due to ConHome, Dale and Guido being so much better" entry didn't get through then.

Being a fan of Dixon of Dock Green I prefer The Blue Lamp.
It conjours up a feeling of security, knowing right from wrong, the goodies from the baddies, true from evil.....

And I thought my tepid suggestion of "Right Thinking" was bad. What bright spark was put in charge of this project?

"Conflab" just sounds downright stupid and as others have noticed, is just going to leave people thinking of the last four letters. Did nobody even bother to try saying the name out loud?

"The Blue Room" is being used by another group, and thus likely to cause confusion.

"The Blue Blog" seriously, there are better names. Instantly forgettable and completely anodyne.

"Speakers' Corner" - about the only one with any vaguely interesing title.

"Out of the Blue" - guaranteed to be used to much amusement by someone out in the media when a post comes out that's slightly off-message. To have a name that suggests unpredictability is not exactly going to inspire confidence or help the communications department. It also suggests a lack of intellectual rigour in what is written.

Whoever came up with this uninspiring and witless list has some serious questions to answer. At least Webcameron is a vaguely amusing and memorable title.

One could, on the other hand, dabble in conspiracy theorism and believe that this is the practice of nudge economics. By coming up with four mediocre alternatives we are forced to vote for the option the party wants us to.

But that would be paranoid

I'd go for "The Conservative Party's new blog"

"Out of the Blue"

Please don't turn an Aussie soap into a Conservative blogfeist

What's the Tory - morning glory?

Random fact - "Out of the Blue" is the name of the military march by Hubert Bath that provides the theme tune to Sports Report.

And actually I think it's my favourite of the ones Iain's mentioned. It suggests the opening of Lawrence of Arabia - out of this fuzzy blue haze you get something solid and tangible appearing.

OK, maybe that is a bit too much to hope for....
