LibDems Revamp Their Website

The Liberal Democrats have unveiled their new website. I have to say I liked the design of their old site better, but the new site has quite a few new features and is relatively easy to navigate.

Particularly souped up are the people pages, with news feeds from their local sites, links to Facebook groups, Twitter accounts, etc. A very different beast from the Labour Party website's alphabetic listing of MP names. There also a LibDem blogfeed - wonder if the Tories will have one of those on their brand spanking new site (which will be launched at the end of the month)

The volunteer sign up form with responses being sent direct to the relevant local party is another good innovation. Somehow I can't see CCHQ replicating that particular innovation!

What do you think of it then? An improvement on their old site, or still light years behind the US equivalents?

eee gad what have they done? This looks like a slightly souped up version of one of the ready made candidate websites??? The Lib Dems have never really had an eye for design though.

It's neither one thing or the other, so spot on.

"The Lib Dems have never really had an eye for design though." And Tories do?

The old one seems to be back for some reason

There's been another redesign as well.

Hmmm... not sure the Greens are well advised to put a big "for rent" button on the front of their website. I know they're a franchise party, but they don't have to be so upfront about it! :P

Not as good as the re-vamped UKIP site. (I would say that wouldn't I - but it's true...)

I think they copied it from Canada's New Democratic Party

They missed the all important - Nick Clegg = Neil Kinnock!

I think the Libbie site needs a content overhaul rather than an aesthetic one.

I'm surprised it's so orange. We had some LibDem literature through the door yesterday and it's all blue and red, disguising itself as council information. Are they allowed to do that?

I don't like the look and feel of it, but I think the layout and functionality is pretty great.

I do however think that it still lags behind (for example) NGOs and campaigning organisations like CAFOD or Friends of the Earth, let alone our American cousins.

Let's hope we come up with something that catches them up.

Wow. That NDP site is pretty good. The drop down video menu on the right hand side is a good idea.

I think you are right Iain. I am no Tory but have always liked the colours and style of the Tory sites. The Lib Dem one seems much easier to navigate than previously and the input from local parties is superb. Really impressed.

Where is your post commenting on the latest data showing a further shrinking of the polar icecap compared with last year? Despite your friends telling us that the earth is cooling again? Oh yes - the website of some fast fading political party, headed by a nonentity, and not even a party you support, is much more important I suppose!

Just tried to go on and got the old site.
