Can only be a matter of time whilst Nu-Labour are in power.Just think of demonstrators like MayaAnne Evans reciting names in Whitehall, or Walter Wolfgang at the Labour conference.
I am not sure whether to say me too, or whether it might be a good idea to have that kind of law over here. The jury is still out on this one...
interesting how the BBC did not provide a link to his blog...for those interested [and with some knowledge of arabic] here it is: karam903
Just as well Mubarak doesn't live in England.
Don't give the government ideas...!
If you did, I think you could be looking at a whole life tariff.....
John Reid will be salivating at the idea...Iain - I'm a long time reader, but have just begun blogging myself.Have a read and let me know what you think Thanks :)
For those who think 'it could never' happen here, just think how close we came with the 'religious hatred' law.. Today Egypt, tomorrow Britain..
Mubarak is probably another old dicator who gets on well with Mrs Thatcher.
Implying that the manner with which you oppose the Government here comes anywhere near the brave dissent showed by this young man - in a totalitarian regime - is frankly offensive Iain.
Do not worry, you have not insulted Mubarak have you? Unless you have, you will be safe living in Egypt.
... because you're so anti-establishment, Iain.
I'm waiting for the violent protests and over-the-top reactions from the humorless and intolerant Muslims to the new Canadian TV series, "Little Mosque on the Prairie", which is a piss-take all round. I've seen the pilot production and it's quite amusing.
When did you last attend a SOCPA protest, Iain?Just wondering. You seemed to make a promise that you would attend this one... but then didn't show. You do care about civil liberties, don't you?
I am sorely tempted Mr Dale, but with the prison population overcrowded at 80,000, where on earth would I put the millions who have insulted me? Has David Davis any idea on this front?
Eubank gets arrested for doing not much more. This is genuinely all getting far to close to home. Orwell just got the date wrong.
I know this story is a few days old, but have all those 'liberals' at the Washington Post etc put this on their front page noting also the subsidy the USA gives to Egypt each year (50%) of what goes to democratic Isreal?
Much less publicity has been given to 67 year old Canadian, Ernst Zundell, who was deported from Canada under anti-terrorist laws after 9/11 & has been sentenced to 5 years in Germany for what he wrote in Canada. He & presumably the rest of us can be charged apparently in a country where it can be read.http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070215/ap_on_re_eu/germany_incitement_trialI regard this as an infinitely greater threat to everybody writing here than the other case.It gets no publicity because he is a holocaust denier. However if freedom of speech is defended only for those we agree with it is imposible the defend freedom of speech because its enemies can always find an unpreposessing stalking horse. It is worth noting that Germany wants the EU to have not only Jewish Holocaust denial laws but to cover more modern events. Thus we could shortly see those who deny the official story of the Srebrnica massacre, as I & many NATO soldiers there at the time do, then we may be next.
