SamCam Does NOT Vote Labour!

Unbelievably, the Mail on Sunday front page story is apparently alleging that Samantha Cameron is a secret Labour voter. It's based on an interview Ed Vaizey has given to a Channel 4 documentary on Cameron by Andrew Rawnsley. However, Cameron Central have moved quickly to deny the story. A senior Tory spokesman tells me...

"The Mail on Sunday story is not true. Sam has never voted Labour and never
will. She took 5 weeks off work to campaign for the Tories in Stafford in 97
election!"

So to those hoping for another Sally Bercow, think again.

I suspect Mr Vaizey may well be eating a little humble pie for breakfast tomorrow...

But frankly, if that's the most damaging allegation to emerge from the programme, I imagine everyone at CCHQ will be quite pleased.

Who cares who she votes for? Plenty of couples have different political views.

I think the programme will probably have some bullying allegations, though, don't you?

Vaizey's a liability at times. He seems to think it was somehow cool to have once supported the shower currently in charge.

"A senior Tory spokesman tells me..."

An anonymous spokesman tells you how someone else purportedly votes in a secret ballot. That's a pretty sound journalistic reference then. At least have the balls to say: "a little bird told me ...".

What is the bloody point in buying a newspaper if the stories it prints are not even creditable!

Um, I'd like to think everyone's votes are "secret" -- and someone should tell Mr. Valzey that it is the 21st century where we not only allow women to vote, but afford them the courtesy of not presuming they're mindless fem-bots who can't put a tick on a ballot paper without permission from Hubbie, Daddy or some other patriarch.

Besides that, this story is so lame it should be taken out behind the stables and shot. Would I give a rat's rectum if (shock! horror!) Sarah Brown was a downlow LibDem or Tory voter? Not really.

While I have no doubt that Mrs Cameron is true blue, the idea that she took time off work to campaign 13 years ago is a piss poor argument. A lot of people change their opinion in 13 years (if they didn't the Tories would be dead in the water).

So please, if you plan to argue with rubbish claims from the tabloids, at least provide some solid arguments or let Mrs Cameron speak her piece. It's not that I'm appealing for either side, just that I'd like to see some common sense exercised rather then arse-end PR.

I expect Sarah Bruin votes SNP!

I'm confused. Are you suggesting now that Andrew Rawnsley's sources may not be infallible?

I would have thought only one person knows how she voted; let's face it, voting Labour in 97 would make her seem more normal wouldn't it? All the cool kids were doing it back them.

The lovely Samantha would be forgiven for thinking the two parties are synonymous.

Apparently, Whitehall is "thinking" of putting VAT on food. Will the Tories put some blue water between themselves and Labour for once, and declare, without caveat, that they will not put VAT on food?

HAHAHA, is this not the case of someone who has over spun and has now sent out the wrong message. Will there be anything that Camerons Car Crash Campaign ever gets right?

This is such a non-story it's comical, though that hardly makes it unique in this dismal election campaign.

Mind you, I'm not sure how this spokesman can be so sure that she "never will" vote Labour. Is it more admirable to be a habit voter than a thinking person?

This is rather like Mcbrides smear campaign is it not?

I think it is a ridiculous suggest that she would consider voter for Gordon brown, lets remember that Damian Mcbride was employed by Gordon brown and Mcbride was using his time to manufacture Tory politicians wives. I doubt after that Gordon Brown would even be on Mrs Camerons Christmas Card list nevermind any chance of a vote going his way.

I can just see Mrs Cameron on polling day, in the Witney Constitiency voting for her husband.

Honestly. You need to run the spell checker rough your posts. That S should really be a B you know...

Simple enough, Vaizey should be asked to provide evidence. If he can not we all know where this goes.

I wonder how much he's going to have to cough up to one of Mrs Cameron's favourite charities.

But it is a manifestation of the (predicted) line of attack supported by the Mail. We can no doubt expect reciprocal action. Indeed, how long before Dacre's spouse is dragged into the fray?

Frankly I couldn't care less who Mrs Cameron may vote for. That's her business. I'm not voting for her, I'm voting for her spouse. Has she been selected as a Candidate somewhere?

That's the trouble, NuLab seems to believe that we're all voting for MPs and their partners. Well, looking at the range of partners of the Labour Front Bench, I'd be throwing up in the voting booth. Many of them do not bear close scrutiny - but perhaps The Mail has not caught up with this yet.

I know it may be difficult for you all to believe but the Mail does not always tell the truth - Michael Foot always referred to it as the Forgers' Gazette.

Who does the Hon Ed Vaizey vote for? No offence but his carer should tell him to drink a big cup of shut the f***-up until after the election. It's called how to win.

"Sam has never voted Labour and never will."

How on earth can anyone say such a thing? Mrs C is 39 so God willing she has 50+ years of voting ahead of her. How can she possibly exclude any future voting option. Times change!

We have SuBo, Brangelina, and now SamCam.

Have the Tories gone so media obsessed that they can no longer call someone by their full name ? What is all this SamCam rubbish ?

Have the Tories dropped their phone tapping media chief and replaced him with the editor of OK magazine ?

You forgot to mention that this shower of sh*t wouldn't have been ruining our country for 13 years, either...

Vaizey shows himself to be another loose-tongued goon. We have a fair number of such idiots hanging around the centre of power - Swires, Letwin, Willets, Goldsmith, Duncan. They should all be forbidden to appear in public without their minders.

We are at last getting rid of some of squirearchy - we really don't need to replace them with a group of equally silly younger men.

The Tory machine can hardly run smoothly whilst it has dust and small pebbles in the gears.

No she votes Labour. She must do. If you were married to that man would you really want him to be unemployed?

Incidentally it was nice to see Marr show some spine today in his interview with Mrs Dromey. She looked genuinely taken aback to be asked about Paul, Cohen etc.

True she's a pretty easy target -having the brains of a rocking horse. But better than nothing.

Not if the Laetitia Guilbaud sketch of Samantha in this morning's Scotland on Sunday is anything to go by. She is decidely blue there.

It is also equally fair to ask if Sarah Brown votes Labour (she also the subject of another Guilband sketch)and it is a bold assumption to assume that all of Nick Clegg's 30 women have always been Lib Dem.

Could Mr Vaizey be tempted to explain his reasons for making statements about Mrs Cameron's alleged voting habits?

His quoted response of "I am very embarrassed by this. I had no justification for what I said," seems inadequate after causing an anti-tory front page splash in the second biggest selling sunday newspaper.

His efforts certainly look impressive on the newstands.

"Michael Foot always referred to it as the Forgers' Gazette".

Presumably at the behest of his handlers.

@ Paddy Briggs

Exactly.

But don't forget that this is a quotation from an unnamed 'senior Tory spokesman'. Who might that be?

In any event, does ths really matter?

Well, so would I, but I ain't taking any bets on that. Postal vote, anyone?

Apparently you hadn't read it at the time of posting. The Mail on Sunday alleges nothing of the sort. It's headline is:

Mrs Cameron 'might have voted Labour': Source suggests Tory leader's wife voted for Blair... and might vote for Brown

Might, suggests, might. If that's the best the Mail can come up with we can be pretty sure there's not a word of truth in it. Although it would be quite good if Ed Vaizey keeps his trap shut on silly speculaton in future. I believe he has already admitted he had no justification for what he said to Rawnsley. Of course he might have been strung up by his thumbs at CCHQ, and forced to recant on pain of the stake, impossible to know these days!

It's telling that an obviously tongue in cheek quip from Vaizey produces an instant response from the Death Star whereas an inquiry about dodgy funding takes ten years to get an answer.
