I don't normally do charity appeals on this blog, but tonight I will make an exception. This afternoon I got an email from Ned Lamn, son of LibDem MP Norman Lamb (the one who beat me in North Norfolk). He has today started a blog that will only last for 4 days. It is to cover a fundraising effort that he and his father and a group of journalists and friends are undertaking by Cycling to Paris in aide of the British Legion. The British Legion does fantastic work and it's a great cause. If you want to lend your support to Norman's bike ride, click HERE.
Norman's got quite a way to go to match the £2,500 I raised for charity when I was the candidate there by a sponsored weight loss, though! I lost two stones in three months. Mind you, the way my waistline is expanding at the moment, perhaps I ought to do a repeat exercise. Now there's a thought... If I did, which charity should I raise money for?

My son is going to Nepal shortly in order to make a film about the work of the Nepali Children's Trust.
He too is working for a good cause, for nothing, and needs money for living expenses while he is there and for the flight.

It is good to see there is a generation of young people who are prepared to do something for others.

I think would be a worthwhile charity to raise money for Iain
I would say Age Concern, Most people have either grandparents or elderly parents and i have seen some good work that they do.
Bletchley Park! It would be an appropriately linked cause.
We're doing a 1940s night at work for the Legion for Armistice Day. I'm going to be a WAF pilot! (OK, slightly dubious historical accuracy, but still...)
A wonderful charity. I live near the British Legion Poppy factory in Richmond Surrey. We also have The Star & Garter home at the top of the hill. I see the terrific work they do on a regular basis.
If you did do another charity weight loss, may I suggest The Shooting Star Charity? They do wonderful work for sick children. Or else one of the many children's hospices.
iain can i link this and ask all to give anything they can

Yes, helpforheroes woul be a good one. I'm trying to sort out a charity gig for them with my band as a few hours playing music is a lot easier than shifting a few pounds!
Thanks for mentioning Ned's blog! Now you have mentioned doing something yourself, it will bug you til you've done it. My suggestion (knowing your Norfolk connections) is Norwich Cruse Bereavement Care who do fantastic work for bereaved adults and children all over Norfolk.
www.norwichcruse.org.uk.
Incidentally, as I write this just about as Ned and Norman and co are leaving Greenwich there are gale force winds and rain in Norfolk, so I hope its not the same there otherwise we may end up having another by-election in Norfolk.
There's no question at present: Help for Heroes.
And if you do it, I'll also aim to lose a stone and will fund-raise for the same charity locally (Hampshire)
West Ham. According to today's Guardian they look like they'll need every penny.
The Alan Duncan fund for down and out Conservative MP's
Fund for down and out Labour MPs more like - I think they're going to have a lot more calls on them within the next year.....
Raise money for British Legion?
The same Norman Lamb who agrees with and defends the smoking ban, because its for our own good, has his son raise money for an organisation who can no longer make welcome or offer comfort for half of its members. Cheek!

I'm just pleased to see Ned has made a full recovery from his recent bout of Swine Flu.
