Brian Shallcross

I was very sad today to learn of the death of Brian Shallcross. Brian was a stalwart of the political lobby and of late worked for the GCAP Media Group presenting political reports on the radio. I didn't know Brian well, but we did five or six newspaper reviews together on Sky News. He was unfailingly polite and good company and always had a twinkle in his eye. He died on August 8th.

The Telegraph has a full obituary of Brian HERE.

Clearly someone who will be much missed. There was one bit in the obit which made me laugh out loud;

' "I want the first minute and a half of the interview edited out," Sir Keith said, after giving a largely incomprehensible televised monologue, only to be told by Shallcross that this was impossible because the interview was live and had already been transmitted into the living rooms of millions of viewers. "I don't want any of your technical excuses," retorted Sir Keith.'

I was similarly sad. The kind of commercial radio journalist that you just don't get any more.

Well remember him from Southern Television when I was a kid. Saw him recently on Sky, apparently on top form. A fine journalist, very sad news.

A fine journalist, an extremely decent man, and probably the best - certainly the most hard-working -chairman of the Parliamentary Press Gallery there has been in the past 15 years.

Very sad to hear that. In fact, I enjoyed his regular podcast from Westminster and I just found this blog entry because I was searching for information on him... wondering why he has not been updating it recently... shame he won't be reporting from Westminster any longer...
