Election Results: Calling all Political Bloggers

REPOSTED FROM SATURDAY

As you may know, tomorrow and Sunday I will be hosting two marathon election results programmes on PlayRadioUK.com, with Hopi Sen as my co-host.

Obviously we'd like to let as many people as possible know that these programmes are happening, especially because the BBC is not doing a live results programme for the county council elections on Friday, and only a three hour programme on Sunday.

If you have a blog and could host one of these banner ads over the next few days I'd be most grateful. Indeed, as a bribe small incentive I might almost guarantee at least one Daley Dozen entry in return.

There are two sizes...

728x90 (version shown is smaller). You can grab it from this link http://www.totalpolitics.com/blogspot/play-radio-election-coverage-728-x-90.gif

300x250 You can grab it from this link http://www.totalpolitics.com/blogspot/play-radio-election-coverage-300-x-250.gif

Please then link the image to THIS page http://iaindale.blogspot.com/2009/05/alert-live-election-results-coverage-on.html

And if you'd like to help us on the day by providing us with news from counts, gossip or comment that would be great. We want to make this the first meaningful election programme staffed entirely by citizen journalists.

We’re interested in receiving as much information, results and gossip from you as possible throughout the course of the day. You may be at a count, or have picked up some into from friends and colleagues, or even from blogs and websites. We want it all fed into us in our live election studio. You can do this in a variety of ways.

PHONE
If you want to appear live on the programme call 01243 556161. Obviously we can only take one call at a time so you may have to wait a bit, but don’t give up!

EMAIL

talk@playradiouk.com

SKYPE
Dial up play.radio.uk . We can take Skype calls, and also Skye chat messages.

TWITTER

You can use my twitter name @iaindale, and it will appear on my Tweetdeck app, or you can use the hashtag #electionstudio. The hashtag is probably best.

The link for the smaller gif doesn't seem to be working (might just be my dodgy laptop).

Happy to oblige though with a link, and listen in on the nights.

Jeff said...

PS If you cut and paste the first link into the address field rather than just click on it, it'll work.

Cheers.

Iain,

Done - see e-mail to you.

His Grace shall be delighted to host such a banner.

No pay-back required.

I'll do it for the requisite bribe (Oh the shame), and you'll have to suffer a link to my latest post: Obama & Sarkozy – No Honour, No Respect and No Gentlemen.

Done.

Events dear boy, events said...

More than happy to oblige. Good luck with the programmes. On Friday you may have to cope with a Cabinet reshuffle as well.

Would probably be more inclined to get involved it wasn't just a Tory and Labour blogger on the show ;)

Done. Good luck with the broadcast!

Charlotte, we have Mark Senior, a LibDem doing stuff too.

I don't like you Iain so wont do it
On the other hand do like Hopi sen
and so I will........

If Preston Guild Hall has wi-fi, I will try to blog and Twitter the results on Friday. We're expected to get the results at about noon.

Done and linked. There's nothing like a bribe!!

Is there a Hopi-free version? :-)

Slight point - because I am a fool and rarely read things, I right-clicked on the MPU/Cube displayed on the webpage and saved that.

The banner size though is (weirdly) one pixel smaller than the one I could get if I clicked on the link.

Just in case anyone else does the same thing, can you change the MPU shown in the webpage to the same as the one we should download.

Not a biggie, but when I upload the banner to my adserver, it automatically decided that it wouldn't display as it was the "wrong size", causing a bit of head-scratching to occur.

Thanks

done and linked, there is nothing like a little bribe to get political bloggers going.

Good idea - done.

Not really a political blogger, (at least, I wouldn't class myself as such) but if I can sort out the technical knowhow, I'll be happy to plug it..

Archbishop Cranmer said...

"...there is nothing like a little bribe to get political bloggers going."

Not at all. Some do it purely out of conviction and a sense of altrusim.

Peter O said...

Slightly shrunk it to fit my site, but now up on www.peter-ould.net. Save the Daley Dozen mention for someone far more deserving.

Would love to help with the results etc but sadly will be on a cruise ship over the relevant time period. Drat!!! Gonna miss the live Labour cull...

Done - but the smaller gif seemed to be impossible to copy in Firefox.

It worked okay in I.E.

I have probably missed something, but where are the ballot boxes in resepect of the Euro Elections kept between Thurs and Sunday?

How do we KNOW that they will not be not interfered with?

If a ballot box (Erith and Thamesmead) kept under lock and key in Labour HQ can be tampered with then nothing is safe.....

I'm very excited for this results program. Every time we have an Election Night, PoliticalBetting.com is always the place to be.

But each time, we always say that wouldn't it be great if we could have our own television show that would pull in all of the punditry, analysis and off-the-cuff reactions of the blogosphere.

For the political anoraks amongst us, it would be heaven. We all complain so much about the poor coverage of the BBC/ITV... I'm certain we could do better.

Hence why I'm interested in this project. OK, it's not TV - but it's just as good to have a medium to experiment with. Good luck, Iain.

Peter Thomas said...

Does it have to be a blog, Iain? I have a community website in the "Beast of Bolsover" country and I can put a banner on my homepage - but you said "if you have a blog."

gordon-bennett said...

What will you do to ensure that the numbers reported to you are authentic? EG, don't publish a result until it has been sent in by more than one independent contributor?

I mention this because although probably 95+ per cent of your contacts will be trustworthy, there is the odd saboteur around.

The same sort of git who thinks viruses are a good and clever thing to manufacture.

Andrew Allison said...

Done. Happy to help.

Slightly shrunk and in place.

Kev - Planet Holyrood said...

Done, although I had to fiddle with its size a wee bit so it didn't throw site's layout into meltdown.

I re-entered the text, so it's prefectly legible; a little reciprocal link wouldn't go unappreciated ;-)

Also, your broken link is broken because there's a space after the dot in '.gif' - lose that space and your link will work just fine.

Adrian said...

Iain, can you create a Facebook event for this? That would be the easiest way for me to spread the word.

John said...

Hi have put it up on my web site
http://www.Whats-On-In-London.com

All the best.

GM said...

Does all this mean we should safely ignore the next two or three Daley Dozens??

Man in a Shed said...

What's the argument for the BBC not doing it public service duty which it justifies the TV poll tax for ? I guess they are sulking as Labour are going to lose.

Anyway will add you banner. ( I suggest you apply to Ofcom for a slice of the BBC's funding it spends pushing socialism down our throats with EastEnders and the Archers ).

Hi Iain,

I'm standing in Lincolnshire County Council elections and we're starting the count at 10pm Thursday - i'll be twittering the event and i'll be sure to hashtag you in!

Anyone fancy explaining in two lines how one does this?

I've had a week out of the loop so Spending tonight catching up, I'm sure something blogworthy will be produced later.

Good luck with the show.

I have added the link Iain but not for the bribe but because I like the idea of advertising for other bloggers and online campaigns.

But a bribe wouldn't go a miss!

Rob said...

I've posted it. Not that anyone reads my blog, mind. (Cue a big 'Awww' from the gallery)

JuliaM said...

"Anyone fancy explaining in two lines how one does this?"

Depends on the sort of blog you have.

If you've got a Blogger one, like me, the quickest way (I found) is to go to the dashboard, choose 'Edit Layout', follow the instructions to 'Add a Gadget' and choose the 'Picture' option. Save the image you prefer, and that suits your template, and add it, and add the link and any text you like, and viola!

If you've got anything else, well, I'm sure someone will have a workaround for you. Just let us know.

I'll be at the count in Stafford, where I'm one of the Conservative candidates, so I'll try to remember to take the phone number along and fill you in on what's going on. :-)

James Manning said...

I have a Wordpress blog. Anyone? Please?

Dark Lochnagar said...

Happy to oblige, Iain. A wee mention would be super as it is difficult to get a newish blog off the ground when there are so many around!

Rob said...

Dear me, moan that no-one reads my blog and then forget to post a link...which might explain the lack of traffic. Here 'tis.

Anyone with a Wordpress blog able to help James Manning with his problem? I've never used Wordpress myself, so could only suggest a Blogger way.

Congratulations on doing what the BBC should be doing by reporting on the local elections.

BTW I call Hazel Blears "The Red Dwarf". Anyone who has seen the film "Don't Look Now" will realise how lethal such a person can be.

At 0915 Wood Street ward, Waltham Forest

238 voted, 43 previously canvassed as Conservative or Possibly Conservative, 51 previoulsy canvassed as Labour or Against, 2 LD, 2 UKIP, rest unknown.

Hardly an exit poll, but this is a Labour held ward in a Lab-Lib run Council area.
