All this spin from Labour about how David Cameron can't possibly gain anything from the Obama victory is a bit rich. They keep quoting to journalists all the nice things Cameron has ever said about John McCain, rather conveniently forgetting that Brown met McCain in Downing Street and his press people were moving heaven and earth to get a picture of Sarah Brown with Sarah Palin.
Note the relish with which Downing Street announced today that Brown had spent ten minutes on the phone today to the President-Elect. Hilarious. And now watch Brown, Merkel and Sarkozy launch a fight to the death to be the first foreign leader to be received at the White House. If Obama has any sense I suspect he will invite the President of Kenya for a visit.
Remember when Sir Christopher Meyer (a daily reader of this blog, incidentally) was told to get up the arsehold of the Bush White House and stay there? Well I suspect similar advice has been given to the current British Ambassador, Sir Nigel Sheinwald. He's lubing up as we speak.
