Quote of the Day: Ken Clarke

"The G20 thing is a bit of a circus. They decided they wanted more growth. Yes and we all love mothers too. The summit was held because all 20 of them wanted to use he word 'global' to emphasie that it wasn't their problem. I'm afraid they all went there for the photo opportunity and I fear the photo that they missed was that with President-Elect Obama."

Lest anyone should challenge you Iain, that quote from the most excellent Ken Clarke given to the BBC today is recorded at Politics Home, even though the BBC does not care to run with its "scoop".

G-20 meeting "a circus" says Ken Clarke

13:21 | 16/11/2008

Ken Clarke, Former Chancellor
BBC News

Mr. Clarke said that the G-20 meeting was a failure. He said, "The G20 thing is a bit of a circus. They decided they wanted more growth. Yes and we all love mothers too."

He continued: "The summit was held because all 20 of them wanted to use the word 'global' to emphasie that it wasn't their problem.

"I'm afraid they all went there for the photo opportunity and I fear the photo that they missed was that with President-Elect Obama."

For the non-politicians and working class "thickos" among us, would someone please explain the difference between the different leaders implementing their own policies, which suit their own nations because one size does not fit all, and -

This meeting, which resulted in an explanation by Daaahhling, saying they agreed that each leader would implement their own policies, which suited their own nations, because one size does not fit all?

No, quote of the week goes to Bill Bailey, who explains why nothing is going to change in this bastard country (I rank this with Orson Welles' "cuckoo clock" speech):

"I stopped short of the idea of England being ready for revolution. I was only 21, but I could see that that's not going to happen, is it, if the snooker's on?"

You get the rulers you deserve and the nasty shell suited, fag smoking thick gits in the North and the credulus stinky alfalfa eaters in the South still vote Labour, and always will and until there really is a revolution they won't give a toss or change their minds.

Ken Clarke is spot on and for doubters just scan the US press to see how underwhelming the reaction was to the G20 get-together.
"This is a plain vanilla stuff they could have agreed on without holding a meeting."
"The leaders curiously downplay the huge culpability of the political leadership in the US and Europe."
"Some leaders were simply eager to be heard."
Indeed an expensive photo-op,ruined because Mr Obama was really busy elsewhere.

I only want to be loved. These world leaders are my only friends..and they said they were going back to their own countries right away, but as I drove back to he airport I could see them all in a bar having a few drinks and a good laugh..
Not even a text from Sarah.{sigh}

Wrinkly weasel; I don't wear a shell suit and I don't vote labour!

Don't generalise, it doesn't work.

So what actually is this supposed "agreement" that Broon insists that GO has broken by talking /down Sterling

Well said Ken. He absolutely sums up that whole charade.

If any one government's policies fail they can say:

'No but, yeah but, no but, yeah but: We did them s**t policies as part of a co-ordinated internationally agreed plan thingy. Like whateva! Y'know it was China what told us it was right or whateva. Your mum stinks an' all!!'

It is the one dreamt up by Mandy/Campbell/Beeboids (after a chat on the sofa) to try and deflect any criticism of the Great Helmsman's financial acumen and protect their own vested interests.

The fact that he has taxed the life out of us and now argues that Tax Cuts are required is a pretty daming public admission that: he has made an 11 year ballsup, the BBC has not reported his 11 year ballsup and that the Labour Party collectively share the blame for leaving in control to make a complete ballsup.
