A few hours ago I launched a US election poll. bearing in mind that 69% of those who have voted classify themselves as Conservatives, the results make interesting reading.
McCain/Palin 38%
Obama/Biden 62%
This is a 10% swing away from the Republicans since 2004.
And 52% of Conservatives support Barack Obama. This bears out what I wrote in my Telegraph column three weeks ago.
* 650 people have voted so far (at 5.09pm)

You could have used the title from your previous post for this one too
The only positive aspect of this result is that as Fraser Nelson said in the Spectator yesterday it provides revenge on all those US conservatives who gushed over Tony Blair.
Having watched various news bulletins throughout the day I'd like to know that if it's okay for black voters to vote for Barack purely because he is black, and many were saying just that, is it then acceptable for white voters to not vote for Obama because of his colour?
I only chose Obama reluctantly. I would rather neither McCain or Obama reached the White House. For two very weak candidates to battle it out shows how weak our cousins' politics has become. They are still stronger than ours, though.
I think the swing away from the GOP among British Conservatives is an "anyone but Bush" effect.
Many Americans are still complaining they do not know what Barak Obama stands for. He can spout quasi-religious guff all he wants for me but I have not heard one intelligent, detailed policy from him.
In the end it will come down to what the PUMAs do. If you're stating up it will be a long night, ending around Dec 15th I guess.
As I said to another Tory who likes Obama. You aren't exactly a Conservative if you support a socialist for the American presidency.
Lets hope the Republicans are keeping notes of all the so-called Conservatives supporting Obama in public. Then they will know which Tories are not be trusted.
The lack of support from Conservatives for McCain and the Republicans is a complete disgrace but typical of Camoron's new style Tories.
Im still laughing Ian. Is this Causlons pathetic attemp at moving away from the reps ...Oh dear.
I wonder - if McCain was ahead in the polls this thread would be " 50% Of Tories Back McCaim"
Your not fooling anyone Ian
Yawn...
99.9999% of Lab and Libs support Obama. So your point is what exacly.
errrr why was McCain at the 2007 Tory Confernce. And why did Geroge Yacht boy work for the Bush campaign in 2000.
Nice try , with the daft poll, but your not fooling anyone
I agree with Andrew Ian Dodge - I'm astounded at the lack of 'solidarity' amongst Conservatives. I am a Conservative who supports McCain - and Palin - and hope experience wins the day, and not vacuous posturing.
As a true conservative I could never support Obama and applaud those with the conviction to stand-up to the media inspired (and massively paid for) mass hysteria.
Like Blair before him, Obama is destined to win by promising nothing but fluffy cuddles for all. The costs and disappointment of that misplaced trust we in the UK already know... but wait until the world's biggest economy are handed their bill!
McCain might be tainted by the recent past, he might not be young and attractive but in these troubled times, there's surely a case for a wise head at the helm?
In the morning the Democrats and their rose-tinted Conservative friends will be insufferable... but soon, we'll all just be suffering. Mark my words.
The Tories seem as divided as ever!
Perhaps they still believe in `trickle up`.
If these Tories agree with McCain - let them campaign on the same policies here.
Hmm, is that because a) Tories don't like to back candidates who are clearly going to lose and b) how on earth can they justify backing a party that has just seen the worst eight years in its history?
