Super Tuesday Live Blog

10.13pm: All networks saying the Democrat race in California is too close to call. Romney has just won the Minnesota and Montana caucuses.

10.02pm: This is actually a lot less exciting than I thought it would be! I think you've all gone to bed anyway, so I think I am going to bow out here until California... Obama wins North Dakota.

10.01pm: McCain wins New York, Romney running third in every southern state. Obama wins Utah.

9.11pm: Fox calls New Jersey for Hillary Clinton on 57%. This is a big result for Hillary.

9.07pm: Obama to carry Delaware according to CNN. I take full credit :)

8.58: Daniel Forrester reckons that if it's McCain v Clinton the likelihood of an independent candidacy by Michael Bloomberg increases.

8.57: NBC calls Massachusetts for Hillary 57-39

8.37pm: NBC project a clear win for McCain in Delaware. Seems to be McCain's night so far.

8.19pm: Huckabee and Clinton win Arkansas. Clinton wins Tennessee.

8.17pm: Karl Rove, on his debut as a pundit on Fox says Romney's strategy has been to concentrate on his home states, Massachusetts & Utah, the states with caucases rather than primaries and also on California.

8.16pm: McCain to take New Jersey.

8.00pm CNN projections: McCain to take Connecticut, Romney Masschusetts, McCain Illinois. Obama to take Illinois, Clinton Oklahoma - other 7 states with polls closes too close to call. An exciting evening ahead!

7.46pm Romney leading McCain 36-30 in early results in Montana.

7.36pm: McCain up in Georgia on early returns 36-29.

7.23pm: I have my good friend Daniel Forrester with me to give some US perspective throughout the evening. He reckons Romney will still be in play by the end of the night and could still win California. Brave man. It won't be decided tonight. On the Democrat side he thinks Hillary will still be ahead by the end of the night. I'm not so sure.

7.20pm According to early exit polls on Drudge, it's a tight race on the Democratic side...
OBAMA: Alabama: Obama 60, Clinton 37... Arizona: Obama 51, Clinton 45...
Connecticut: Obama 53, Clinton 45... Delaware: Obama 56, Clinton 42... Illinois:
Obama 70, Clinton 30... Massachusetts: Obama 50, Clinton 48... Missouri: Obama

Iain, do keep us nightowls posted on California. The BBC seems to be getting all their news from American media, so we're several minutes behind back here.

Meanwhile, I think I hear birds waking up outside...

an interesting aspect of the Democrat result is that pundits were saying it was "too close to call" on a state by state basis yet with a couple of exceptions the victories to either Obama or Clinton were decisive. The average margin was about 20%. Had a smaller number of states been voting then depending on which ones were chosen could have led to claims for a decisive victory for either camp.

Oh God- I hope Hillary wins the Democratic nomination. Obama has NO experience. Another thing that bothers me about Obama, is that his campaign is 'kool'. Obama may be 'kool' ,and have momentum, but he is coming out with glib 'positivist' soundbites with hardly any policy content whatsoever. That reminds me too much of a certain liar elected in Britain in 1997. I'm glad to see my prediction of a McCain victory for the Republicans is approaching completion. Romney (who) has no charisma or depth; and Huck, God bless him, is the token barking 'Neo-Christian (bonkers) Right Wing' candidate who has NO chance in winning the Presidency. My prediction- McCain for president if Obama gets the Dem nomination; too close to call if Hillary gets the Dem nomination.
