Not So Gorgeous, George
Each year about a couple of thousand sixth form politics students descend on Methodist Central Hall in Westminster to hear a range of well-known politicians speak. Anyone who has addressed one of these gatherings (as I have) knows that a frightening occasion it can be. The lovely George Galloway dropped out at very short notice, leaving someone much lower down the RESPECT food chain to face the sixth formers. They were not impressed – and gave his understudy a right roasting. My favourite question was: ‘Your party is called Respect. Why didn’t George Galloway have the respect to turn up to talk to us?’ Hell hath no fury like a sixth former scorned…

To be fair, maybe he had something last minute that he couldn't get out of. I'm sure he's not the only MP to have had to cancel something last minute, and it's not like he could have sent an alternative MP around instead.
Maybe the indefatigable one was busy being Rula Lenskas pussy.

Is this a feeble attempt to drag up the occasion when he told a school child 'You are confusing me for someone who gives a £u*k' ?
Kids today don't know they're born, and aren't used to adults who know that they are in charge of the kids, not the other way around. He should be congratulated for giving them a taste of what the disappointments of life are like after school is over.

I'm glad to hear they're still doing those conferences - always the best excuse for a day off school. I went about 10 years ago - we had Tony Benn and Theresa Gorman among the speakers, back when politicians were still allowed to be loony.
Also, Carol Vorderman was doing a photoshoot on the street outside. For some reason she was sprawled on the bonnet of a large black car. It was snowing at the time, but she still had a very short skirt on.
All a teenage politics student's fantasies in one day.
Are you aware that one of these nearly bankrupted the Young Lib Dems - who organised it - a few years ago?
Ah, but he was definitely there on Monday, and exactly when he was meant to be. He was very well received (apart from a few giggles raised by his often arcane imagery). I know because I was there!
Perhaps George felt that he hadn't been paid enough money to attend the meeting?
Whereas David Cameron just missed out an unimportant CBI meeting.
I went to two of these over five years ago and I can completely agree that they are a fantastic idea. I always think of them every time I walk past westminster Methodist hall. We had Ken Clarke, Charles Kennedy, Ian Hislop, Mo Mowlam, David Owen and many more over the two years. I remember a post lunch Mowlam looking less than sharp and also Charles kennedy getting completely sidetracekd by the Arab lobby.
Great fun; and I am sure that Galloway was the biggest loser for not turning up!
