No trains, no planes and (with petrol about to pass £1.20 per litre) no automobiles.

Got to be a Tebbitesque "Get on your bike" in there somewhere?

Isn't there video somewhere of Brown using those words (in a phrase like "we're not saying 'get on your bike'") or am I just imagining that?

Oh Lord. If Labour fiddle the election and stay in we wont even be able to leave the country!

Wonderful achievement by Brown's comrades! Obama would feel really happy with his comrades Teamsters achievement by linking with UNITE!
Topical meeting with Obama and Brown. Can't be better!

These unions stirring up trouble as we go into a GE campaign is either the most monumental piece of Union stupidity, a sign of just how much the left-wing union leaders hate the Nu-Labour government or an attempt to set up a 'Brown saves the country from strikes' scenario which is so blatant and transparent that my 6 year old could see through it. Whichever, I can't see how it does the Tories anything but good.

Ok I am at a loss here, what are the unions thinking?

First they tried to annoy everyone at Christmas, now they want to destroy an Easter get away (not sure how I will get home). This is not going to leave people with warm fuzzy feelings towards the unions.

Second, there is an election coming up and their buddies are having a hard enough time as it is without them pulling this kind of trash.

Third, the Tories are not going to be so friendly to the union once they get into office (double please)

What are they thinking?
I can see only two solutions.

1.) They hate Gordon Brown (lets face it who doesn't)

2.) They want to go out Brunhilde style.

Yes, pity the poor No.10 staffers as in reality Brown will not be wearing boxing gloves! No doubt various office equipment has grown wings and some staff will be sporting Gordon Browns Political Bruising moniker!!!

How about a windfall tax on Unite given the windfall "income" they've earned due to favourable market (Liebour) conditions!!?

Quite right. Perhaps they're getting ready to re-fight all the old battles from the '80s. And by alienating the public they're going to align the public firmly on the side of the Tories.
They've truly gone into self-destruct mode.

Out of power for a generation, perhaps?

The trouble with getting old is that one feels one has seen it all before. Labour in thrall to the unions. threats of public sector walk outs oh dear. Who is going to knock their heads together? Maybe it is a stitch up this BA strike so that Gordon can be seen as the white knight just before the election ...do I see Charlie Whelan in all this?
