Crass

A reader emails:

Watching the BBC coverage of the Remembrance Service at the Cenotaph, shedding tears, and what does the bloody BBC News Channel say on one of their rolling banners?

"WWI veterans lay reefs at the Cenotaph"

Which cretin was responsible for THAT ???

Indeed.

UPDATE: Image hattip to Guido Fawkes.

David Dimbleby also clearly did not know who the Lord Speaker, Baroness Hayman, was. Time he was retired.

BBC News Channel could do with more proof reading and more care on labelling generally Iain. After alkl they have taken to indroducing you as "publisher of Total Politics" and not as the world's favourite Conservative Blogger. Hardly open or honest. Though it is not as if you hide your light when your mouth is opened.

"Neutral" instead of "Tory". Much greater mistake from them in terms of public service than "reef" for "wreath".

They fought and died so that Europe wouldnt rule us and that we would remain a free and independent country.

Now EUrope DOES rule us.

There was not much point in me doing a two minutes silence, as I live in the middle of fields and nobody would hear it.

So here it is now. My salute to all those who served our country. Respect.

The BBC's standard of English is terrible, and getting worse.

The number of times I see "Alright" in subtitles drives me to distraction. It's "all right", all right?!

And you "try to" do something, you don't "try and"...

Probably the result of a BBC drive to recruit the illiterate who have previously been under-represented in the workplace etc etc .....cont p.94

Ha! The other day they managed to write "pre-credit crisis" as "Prix credit crisis".

BBC ineptitude aside have to say it was a very moving service - the sight or the three remaining servicemen from WW1 made me feel very humble. Nice to hear them get applauded as they left the Cenotaph - we shall not see their like again.

Lord Wreath (sic) would question his legacy.

The bbc gets worser and worser :) What can you say, after the lewd calls etc is anyone really surprised?

I will respect the fallen. I will not respect the donkeys who led them there - nor those who are talking up this 90th anniversary to deflect scrutiny of their present policies in the Middle and Afganistan.

Wreath is a tricky word to spell and so we cannot expect schools to upset children by making them learn how to write it.

The other question is how on earth with this standard of literacy can we expect the BBC to be capable of objectively explaining the world (like the current credit crisis) to us?

No wonder Brown treats us like we are thick.

Perhaps you could investigate why the BBC switched round at the last moment on Sunday a repeat of "Little Dorrit" with a profile of Vera Britten.

The BBC Points of View messageboard has over 100 complaints from people fuming that they missed the tribute to Vera Britten. I caught most it by chance and, although I am not a big Jo Brand fan, Ms Brand did a sensitive job of conveying what it was like to live through World War I and the heavy cost of bereavement for so many people.

I would like to know if, as some bloggers have claimed, that the BBC was so preoccupied with the American Presidential Elections it neglected its coverage of the Remembrance Day Parade and panicked when its timings all went wrong.

This must be a shoo-in for the front cover of the next Eye.

Check out this classic from Radio Bristol, who are now reduced to the poaching of staff from the execrable 'GWR' FM.

Also on the Telegraph..

But make sure you hear the 'audio' on the Sun website, as she switches from 'girl next door radio presenter' to a snobby "Don't you know who I am ?" snooty cow at the flick of a switch..

Interesting comments here, many of which are illuminating; but I suspect that the real issue here is that the BBC recruits apparently almost entirely on the basis of one's political leanings and not on one's abilities or competences.

The result is "GIGO", as so often reported here and elsewhere, and is why the BBC is nowadays a travesty of what its originators intended.

And surely none is a WW1 veteran anyway.

Sammy is a nutjob. She was into harder stuff than alcohol when I met her. She has always worked in the Bristol media. She started out as an HTV weather girl, then onto newsreader & finally some magazine program stuff. Then she went out on a bender & fluffed her career. I'm surprised she ever worked again in medialand.

She's very good looking but well under five foot tall. One for the manic midgets methinks.

Angry at Assembly Member Peter Black's outrageous comments

This is the week to remember those that have sacrificed so much in service to their country, which is why it was so shocking to read in the Wales on Sunday at the likes of Peter Black Assembly AM ripping into ex-POW John McCain for the way he moves his arms. John McCain is a man who suffered greatly when he was shot down over Vietnam serving his country. If you read about the McCain family you will read about sacrifice and service to the United States of America. I read that John McCain’s father was at the signing of the Japanese surrender and died shortly thereafter. John McCain’s son is serving in Iraq. Whole generations of McCain’s have served and risked life and limb in service to their country … and there’s Peter Black ripping into McCain for the way he moves, for the way he uncomfortably supports his arms. Shame on you Peter Black.

Speaking of. BBC News website has a report on new I'm (not) a Celebrity lineup - Brian Paddick and Kilroy - but BBC describes Kilroy as "TV presenter turned MP" - when my understanding was it went the other way round! (MP turned TV host turned MEP, more like it.)

And George Takei's Star Trek character is described on the same page as "Mr Zulu"! What a bloody mess.

The person doing the pop-ups on 't screen for BBC's news/lies (liberal ones, of course) department is probably a result of LyingLabour's 'every child can succeed (even if they are fick)' policy.
