When you're fighting an incumbent Democratic Senator from North Dakota you do some desperate things to raise your profile and draw attention to yourself (very unlike fighting an incumbent LibDem in North Norfolk, you understand). Dwight Grotberg (no, really) thought a bit of retro campaigning might be in order, so he took some inspiration from this 1952 Dwight D Eisenhower campaign commercial...
But sadly, the inspiration wasn't quite enough, as you're now about to see...
Ow, that's bad!
Its so bad its funny.
OW!!!! That is soooooo BAD!!!!
But I LOL
A brilliant piece of video. No really I'm impressed.
So I'd like him to do the ads for the Tories for the next general election, please.
Anonymous 7:49 - You must be very easily amused.
I liked it - its rubbish but so much better than all those god & country or dirty trick alternatives. Simple message - Vote for me I'm a nice man.
That was rather lame. And I thought the dog looked self-conscious; it's probably a closet Republican. BTW he lost. A good lesson in making sure you can stand up to the comparisons your campaign makes for you.
It is so bad it is brilliant. One additional point - what does invceiombent mean?
oh dear, oh dear, oh dear.
Raincoaster - The dog was probably a closet Republican. Funny!
I used to work in marketing [but not advertising I hasten to add] and there was always the argument that some adverts are so bad, that you do remember then, possibly to the exclusion of better made ads.
There was a supremely artistic [some would say arty farty] ad some years ago for a certain brand of high performance tyres. I can't for the life of me remember if they were Dunlop/Michelin/Another.
Yet those bloody abysmal Ferrero Rocher adverts are re-run due to their 'cult' status as being so bad, people quote the dialogue.
And the nadir of advertising, the 'ShakeNvac' lady is still increasing sales every time the advert is shown.
Perhaps this man's mistake was not to have made the advert even worse...
A decent married man with values. No place for the likes of him the modern world.
You like Dave
I like Dave
Everybody likes Dave …for Premier
Bring out the bike, with greens all on heat
We'll take Dave to Downing Street.
We'll take Dave to Dow-ning-Street!
Dave for Premier, Dave for Premier, Dave for Premier...
Now is the time for all good English folk to leave their country.
Clearly a very sound basis for electing Mr Grotberg.
This man's got real vision.
A bit Sesame Street isn't it! Just goes to show that ads that work for one generation don't workfor another!
But if the Tories want to do something similar, they are more than welcome! :)
That said, I prefer it to those awful negative ads from the Republican in New Hampshire. They actually made me angry !
A sad tribute to the inexorable decline of easy listening close harmony vocal backing groups since their heyday.
