Willie Horton: The Sequel
This is running in South Carolina. I suspect the Romney campaign are behind it. Desperate stuff.
"Jack Straw stood up in the House of Commons and said his release from jail 18 days before his sentence was due to end "was not a contributory factor" in the subsequent killing of his girlfriend. Excuse me?! If he had not been released early she would have undoubtedly lived at least another eighteen days - that's a cast iron certainty."
No, Justin, if that's the best you can do it's not me who's desperate. There's a difference between stating a fact and using emotional hype like they do in this video.
Iain, this video might be emotional, but it is factual. Apparently Huckabee was pretty liberal in using his powers as governor to pardon and get early parole for prisoners. No doubt it's motivated by his Christian convictions and his desire to show mercy, but in the Dumond case it did lead within a short period of time to the rape and murder of the woman in question.
I don't think this was arranged by another campaign. As the mother of the victim has been campaigning against Huckabee for the past few months and has made it clear that she'll do everything she can to prevent his nomination.
Anyways, I fail to see why this ad is evidence of desperation. In this case Mike Huckabee exercised poor judgement and someone died as a result. It's perfectly reasonable to call that to the attention of voters.

Standard fare for US elections.

Sorry Iain, it was the pinning of a woman's death on a political opponent that confused me. It won't happen again.

Iain, I just don:t know what the devil you are complaining about. It seems fair enough to me.
