Peter Hain: How Very Rude...

A correspondent just sent me this...

Dear Iain

Your post about David Starkey put me in mind of a moment on the tube that epitomised my take on Peter Hain. A while back (before he had a ministerial car) I was sitting on a crowded tube and Hain was standing next to me furiously trying to write on a piece of paper. Seeing the man was in a hurry I offered him my seat so he could complete his task more easily. He took the seat without saying thank you, wrote his speech or whatever, got off at Westminster giving me no acknowledgment of any kind....A man who thinks he's entitled perhaps?

Yours, M

And that's the chap Jimbo and David Boothroyd are faithfully defending on another thread?

Barclays Bank in Peckham high street had a similar experience in the 1970's.

Whose to say that the same BOSS agent isn't still going around London, pretending to be Hain and being very rude to people in order to discredit him?

Iain this is gold, don't you think you should keep it however for one of your "irreverent" political books. I mean, this is pure, 24-carat gold. Just pure gold.

Do you think that Hain know's where the all the bodies are,and that if Brown fires him he has threatend to tell all.

Its bad enough to behave in this way to anyone, to the head of M16, its shocking! Is there no end to this mans shame?

Of course, that's why Mandy a 'special friend' of Miranda's resigned and then got a First Class ticket on the biggest gravy train ever.

Bliar couldn't sack Brown or the Buckett woman for the same reason, they'd take him down.

Why do you think the superlatively incompetent Jack Straw is still in the cabinet?
Because he now has contact lenses?

I wouldn't give a fig if the lot of them fell head first into a vat of merde and took two days to drown!

C'est la vie!

The smear campaign against Peter Hain is an outrage, and our nation is shamed. The odious Simon Heffer was kicking the man earlier, and I had to run to the toilet so sick with anger did I feel. Iain, as you have recently had professional dealings with Mr Heffer perhaps at your next encounter you could point out this epistle I have penned in his honour. After reading it Mr Heffer should be a more rounded and educated human being.

I apologise for my omission. The 'King' was of course the 'Count of Houmberside' (omit o's) who had the goods on the lot of them.

As a tribute we could erect a 500ft. tower at the site of the 2012Olympics and set light to him now. The resulting flame will be a welcome sight to all between now and then!

Drowning them all in a bucket of merde? Impossible. They live in one every day of their lives. It would be like trying to kill a mole by burying it alive.

Wouldn't 'an incompetence' be a wonderful collective noun?

Engage him in conversation by asking him how he feels about Elton's view of the importance of Thomas Cromwell.
Insist that, contrary to Starkey's position, Elton is the author of modern government. If he responds in any way at all just say 'Is is is!' and blow raspberries at him.

Awwww, diddums! Hain took public office, where he is subject to standards. In fact his government brought in laws to cover this, and he broke them. He is dishonest and incompetent.

Your defence of him on your blog is a sycophantic joke. It credits him with things he has not even managed, and nothing he has. It reinforces the fact that Hain has done nothing for us, but has taken our money all the same.

Courtesy costs nothing. But how would Hain know that? A man who has spent most of his life pursuing cash and position would know very little of such things.

Hain does not do "Thank You"s verbal or written...which explains why he is being Brown stuffed!

My favorite collective noun is for a group of senior civil servants: a Lack of Principals.

My father was sitting on a train waiting to leave King's Cross a few years ago, when Lord Falconer sat down next to him. After considering the dilemma you mentioned, Iain, my dad said

"Excuse me, but are you Lord Falconer?"

Falconer (beaming at being recognised)
"Yes"

At which point my dad said "'Scuse me", got up and went to sit somewhere else on the train...
