"I am different from Tony who is prime minister. I'm a deputy leader really. I have the title of deputy prime minister at the kind of patronage of the prime minister," said John Prescott on the Today programme this morning. In a slightly more eloquent performance than usual, Prezza seemed to drop more than a hint that he might well want to continue as Deputy Leader of the Labour Party, even if the new Prime Minister was minded to appoint a new DPM. I suspect this was a kite flying excercise, just to see what the reaction would be in the Labour Party. Up to now everyone had just assumed that he would go at the same time as Blair.
There are of course those of us who still cling to the view that he will still be forced from office at some point when a further bimbo eruption happens. Indeed, I had a very interesting email from someone over the weekend who seems to know quite a lot about Mr Prescott's frequent visits to a city not too far away from his birthplace. More on this later. Hopefully.
