On Wednesday I was told of a rumour relating to the Prime Minister which was so preposterous that I didn't really give it a second thought. Well, almost. I actually wrote a short blog entry about it but decided not to post it as it really was so outlandish. However, having seen the Mail on Sunday a couple of hours ago while I was at News 24, I'm no longer so sure. Read THIS story, especially this extract...
Before the party on Wednesday night - as his wife Cherie was flying to Rome to deliver a speech - Mr Blair joined Rebekah Wade, editor of The Sun and a close friend of [Matthew] Freud, for a cosy supper at Cecconi's restaurant in Mayfair. This location aroused suspicions because Freud, regarded as the best-connected man in London, is also a friend and PR adviser to Cecconi's owner Nick Jones, who founded the exclusive Soho House members' club. Ms Wade apparently persuaded Mr Blair to join her at the party at Freud's, which had the ostensible aim of promoting a new credit card which will fight Aids in Africa.
Now, put that together with Peter Dobbie's column later on in the paper (which is not yet online) and draw your own conclusions. Well I suppose it's one way to keep The Sun onside...

AEG? Does this mean he controls my kitchen equipment as well as my income? (takes slug of gin and retires to bedroom.)
I thought you were going to reveal that Blair has no intention of standing down and proposes legislation to abolish Parliament.
I don't understand. Please elucidate.
Please don't force us to buy that odious paper Iain. Time to be a true blogger and publish .....
You move your mouse to the big blue THIS in the article. Click and by the wonders of modern technology you will be mysteriously transported to the article!
Blair had an 'intimate' dinner with Rebekah Wade while his wife was out of the country. Blair was seen to slide along the banquette and press his body close to Rebekah's. Putting his lips to her ear he whispered, "Any chance of getting Ross's mobile number?".
What does Ross Kemp think about this?
OI ! Blair !
stay away from my missus!
'as his wife Cherie was flying to Rome to deliver a speech...'
I expect she did, on the lines of, 'give me the tapes, all of them, and the lists of all calls made between Tony and mr B., and my chats with the holy see. I don't care if you have issued a decree that all the tapes are to be destroyed forthwith, and all records of any calls, on pain of death, or up to 5 years, which is probably the same thing in one of your jails, or ours, or anybody's come to think of it.'.
Just think, every phone contact for every entity of any importance for years and years, has been recorded and filed by a secret and illegal section of Telecom, funded by monies subtracted from shareholders profits and reporting to SISMI (we call it MI5) and their correspondents . A real record of real government.
Murdoch's using carrot and stick on Blair - offers of jobs, dinners, and yet promoting the leadership of his deadliest rival. once blair's ready to come in from the cold, the Murdoch network will take him in.

Iain, reading those two MOS articles together, my conclusion is that someone told you that there was a rumour that Mr Blair is having, or had had, an affair/dalliance/fling/whatever, possibly with a "person unknown", or possibly the rumour included a name. That's what I guessed you were trying to hint at.
