Excellent news, though disgraceful that it's taken so long.
Absolutely delighted to hear that Roger is back on board. His predicament has shown us the unsustainability of remaining within the EPP-ED. Roger has argued well the case for withdrawal, for example when he said: "After nearly seven years in the European Parliament, I have now reached the firm view that Britain would be better off out of the EU. There is simply no benefit of membership, at all, that could not be achieved through a normal treaty between independent nations, without having to out-source our governance to Brussels. The EU damages our prosperity, undermines our democracy, and increasingly threatens our national security."
However, my view is that David Cameron is right to wait until after the next European elections (when I will happily vote Conservative, rather than UKIP as I did at the last Euro elections) to form the new group. We should then have on board the Polish & Czech Conservatives and hopefully a few other similarly aligned parties...
fairdealphil! Roger Helmer's got a fair deal at last and will not face deselection as threatened by hague. Surely a good moment for Conservatives to let bygones be bygones, and close ranks behind Cameron.
Yeah, Helmer´s reinstatement is a victory - for the hard-right Europhobic headbangers in the Tory party. The factional divide in the Euro Tory party will be opened up again.
Jonathan M Scott - Í fear you´re going to be disappointed if you seriously think that a new party of the European right is going to happen (both the polish and czech moderate right are inclining towards staying in the EPP. Face the fact that Cameron will probably never withdraw from the EPP.
It´s amusing to hear that Brussels compromises ´our 'national security´ (!?!). How exactly?
As for harming Britain's prosperity, I suppose you would think this if you take Bruges Group and Civitas publications at face value. The reality is that our EU membership is both politically and economically beneficial to Britain.

Magnificent News folks.
I worked with Roger in the East Midlands Euro Elections and the General Election and must say that he is such a credit to the Conservative Party.
A VERY BIG WELCOME BACK!!!
Just rejoice.
HURRAH!
Possible to have a link to the campaign website please? Thanks.
Chris.
and he's still outside the EPP. Great outcome. The rift between the factions can start to heal over.
Instead of showing leadership, Cameron has given in to the hard right wing.
Helmer accused Cameron of betrayal after his famous u-turn on EPP.
The Tories ain't changed one iota under Cameron.
The get out of Europe extremists are still in control.

Convince me of the benefits of staying in the EU rather than throw words like extremist around Phil.

I assume you are a COnservative?
I say tapestry, assuming that fairdealphil is a Conservative is going a bit far!
