I think that's the funniest thing I have seen yet on YouTube. The tears were almost streaming down my face

Was that small, smiling boy Pope Benedict, by any chance?

Contrary to UK opinion, the Germans do have a (good)sense of humour; it's just not the same as ours & why should it be? Among other things, they don't find 'lavatory' humour particularly amusing as our 'comics' seem to do....and who can argue with that?
The video clip come from the well-known Harald Schmidt Show which is very popular and is a small 'milestone' in that after 60 years of breastbeating during which Nazi atrocities featured weekly on nearly all German TV stations, they have come to see not only the sheer awfulness of the Nazi psst but are, finally, able to see it as a ridiculous anomaly in a cultural heritage of which they are rightly proud.
A man is grown up when he can laugh at himself. The same applies to nations.

No wonder they burnt Cranmer at the stake with a comment like that.

Side-splitting. Unless, of course, one's granny was murdered by the Gestapo.

I think our own "Lambeth Walk" (c.1941) might have been a tad more comical. I wonder if they have ever shown that on Bundes-telly?

Good call Sir Bentley - 'Hoch Der Lambeth Walk' is an absolute masterpiece. Watch it at British Pathé. If you've any experience with film editing you'll know it must have taken days of work.

Better version of 'Hoch der Lambeth Valk' at the National Archives: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/theartofwar/films/hitler_command.htm

Well, it certainly shows what Harald Schmidt's sense of humour has been rather shakey as his career as an entertainer appears to come to an end. Let's hope it will be fast, and painfree.

Sorry, it is really funny to find this difficult for someone who had to live with the destroyed aftermath of Germany (the cultural desert for one thing) and, who is sick by seeing images of their grandparent being conned by Hitler.

Iain, bad taste, you scraped a hole in the bottom of the barrel with this one :(

Some stuff is just so unfunny that it is not possible to make jokes that intelligent people find funny. The German Reich, the Chinese cultural revolution, the Russian Gulags are examples of such cases, of which they are sadly too many in human history.

erm I wrote:

I meant: "Sorry, it is really difficult to find this funny"

I rarely switch words like that only when I get stressed and ont occasion I'm really upset about Schmidt being so cheap and abour Iain then posting this as 'humour'.
