Speaking at the Conservative Womens' Conference

Tomorrow afternoon I shall not only be performing in front of more than 700 Tory women, but will be providing David Cameron's warm up by doing a half hour on stage interview with Sir Christopher Meyer. All this will be at the QE2 Conference Centre in Westminster, where the Conservative Womens' Organisation is holding its annual conference titled CREATING A BETTER WORLD FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS.

It wasn't so long ago they struggled to get 300 attendees at the rather dowdy Emmanuel Centre just down the road, so to attract that number is a huge testament to the work of their chairwoman, Fiona Hodgson and her colleagues. They haven't been at the QE2 for more than a decade. I'll be talking to Sir Christopher about his work at the PCC and also his time in Washington DC as our Ambassador and what he makes of current British foreign policy.

The sessions in this conference are a far cry from those of yesteryear: Africa - A Continent of Extremes, Women as Peacemakers and Environment - Quality of life and our impact on the world are just three. Nothing on jam-making or knitting, strangely :) . They've got speakers from Iraq, Burma, Rwanda and Washington too.

I've just seen in the programme for the conference that "Iain also wears some of the most extraordinary ties in the history of internet television, and his ties now have their own avid female fan club!" Well I never. I'd better wear one of my more outrageous ones...

Note: Those who have a sense of humour failure over the video above should note that it is meant to be funny. Ironical. Satirical. So no po-faced comments please.

Tory women seem to be remarkably liberated these days.

Well, "the history of internet television" doesn't go back very far, so don't go getting above yourself.

"Creating A Better World for Future Generations" has a nice trite ring to it. Nothing there to frighten the horses, except your tie, of course.

I think they ought postpone worrying about creating a better world etc and deal with today and the horrendous scarring on our national psyche caused by 10 years of Trotskyite destruction.

Same with Africa. Back burner.

Also, women are no more all peacemakers than are men. Indira Gandhi? Benazir Bhutto? Mrs. Bandaranaika? This is a stupid socialist Kumbayah rubbish.

well sadi verity. I have never forgiven Boedica!
or, as they say on the BBC, Bodecka!

Iain, I beat you by almost twenty years. I spoke to the North West Conservative Women's Association just outside Oldham. Lady Whitelaw was in the chair. I did not wear an outrageous tie and although I did speak for thirty minutes, unlike you I did not perform on the platform.

Mind you your audience are a very accomodating lot, are they not, allowing you to perform with a male!

Agree with man in a shed, let's hope you get back to Blighty in one piece, but if not, then it's:

we'll meet again, don't know where, don't know when;
But I know we'll meet again, some sunny day...

The sad truth is that monetary policy will not be discussed at the CWC conference. Its agenda reads like one from the Lib Dems or War on Want. Most Tory PPCs, men and women, have no idea what the gold standard was. The Cameroons have got what they wanted - the return of the stupid party!

What is the difference between the Conservative Womens' Organisation and the Women's Institute?

I'm thinking of the reception the WI gave to Blair a few years ago.

"Performing", eh?

Just be careful you don't put your back out - again. So I'd advise nothing too athletic.

You should explain what cameron's new cooperative conservatism is all about. That's what girls like - lots of cooperation - it's the gold standard of the female.

It will put terror into the hearts of the Brownites to see thousands of Conservative women cooperating in their direction.

Making people compete for their living was one thing. Add to that the power of cooperation, and Cameron will overpower all opponents. Cameronism is born.

URGENT. For God's sake get hold of Cameron and tell him to drop the "Convict more rapists" rant. It insults juries and it's no good saying about the conviction rate in other countries (they don't charge in "date rape cases") In fact our conviction rate on "stranger rapes" is very very good.
