James Graham, of the Quaequam blog twittered this morning...
If Bob Quick was a minister, he'd have simply insisted he 'didn't break any rules' and sat it out.
I'm not so sure. If this had happened to Jacqui Smith in the current climate I think she'd have been forced to quit too, but only because it would have been the latest in a series of political embarrassments. If it happened to another minister, I suspect James Graham might well be right.
Bob Quick's main problem over the last 16 hours is that he has lacked political cover. This is the third embarrassment he has brought on the Met over the last few months, and it was probably inevitable that he went. It's sad that a career comes to an end like this, and disappointing that the Met has lost a senior officer in this way. It wasn't clear until just now that he has, in fact, resigned not just from his counter terror role, but from the Met as a whole.
