Click HERE to watch last night's Labour PPB. And then click HERE to watch tonight's Conservative one. If you were casting your vote purely on the basis of having seen the two of them, who would you go for? Not difficult is it. While vaguely amusing to those of us in the Westminster village I dread to think what the voting public made of Labour's effort.
If I were Steve Hilton I'd now be commissioning hundreds of furry little Dave the Chameleon reptiles and then sending them out to the lobby. We should embrace the Chameleon and take him to our hearts (Tories do have them, by the way!). So anxious were the Labour PR people not to make the Chameleon in their PPB seem too horrible or vicious (and face accusations of Demon Eyes II) , they actually made him rather endearing. We should capitalise on that!

The Labour one doesn't seem to work doh!
But I thought DC's one was absolutely stunning, really uplifting and positive. Its put a smile on my face.
Obviously put together with great haste (did I notice David nearly fluff a line near the end?) but in terms of message far more positive than that Labour idiocy.
The proof of the pudding however will be in the selection they choose to show in the next PPB (what happens if nobody submits any or any that are worthy for the Tory campaign!?)…
“If I were Steve Hilton I'd now be commissioning hundreds of furry little Dave the Chameleon reptiles and then sending them out to the lobby”. It’s probably just as well you’re not he whoever he be.
Aside from a few politics geeks such as us (and even I've watched neither), do you really believe that anyone watches these broadcasts now that they're not on all channels simultaneously? I think they're more about rallying the troops than engaging with the electorate.
I'm sorry, but the Conservative one is puke-inducing.
I missed the Chameleon PPB along with the vast majority of the public. After viewing it on Labour's website I found it rather entertaining and I'm sure it held the attention longer than most PPBs.I know many people switch off PPBs as soon as they get to the 'politics' bit.
I think the effect of the national PPB is minimal, particularly in local elections.
I want one.....on a little track cycling round my desk cheering me up as i tap away at work! I used to have a superlambbanana but i gave that away
that was so positive it made me feel all fluffy inside. As a political anorak I have to say it's one of the best PPB's I've seen, mainly because it didn't have politicians in it (well largely anyway).
" If you were casting your vote purely on the basis of having seen the two of them, who would you go for? "
The Green Party!
If Davey boy really wants us to believe he yearns to hear our thoughts, that he aches even (like the rest of the tories do for a return to power...) he has to get a believable/unique style. Same old fake earnestness, same old politician, repeating his soundbite mercilessly. By the third time i'd heard him try and sound sincere about how he wanted to hear from you what you want, instead of politicians telling you what they want i really didnt care what he was saying.
I also find it strange that he's trying to lead on the environment which has never been a big vote winner for any party, and does nothing to remove the bad old tory taste. Unless im mistaken they weren't disliked for harming the environment...
Everyone I talked to in the office this morning said they were much more likely to vote Cameron now that he was a a cute little chameleon.
Now we just need the little lizard to turn into a dragon when he scampers over to Wales.
Furry reptiles, Iain?
Onan's comments show that his name is well chosen but the anonymong who thinks the tory one is puke making is bizarre. A local elections PPB that talked about local politics and finishes with a party leader saying that however you vote it's important to use your vote on May 4th - just can't see that being puke inducing.
Personally I loved it but I also enjoyed the other tory broadcast with the chameleon - when is the LAbour one coming out?
If Steve DOES get some made can the Scottish Tories have little tartan ones please? They could supercede the haggis in the affections of the Scottish public!
Off topic. Iain, what can you tell us about Andrew Tyrie? Can't say I've noticed him before but I did like his Paxmanesque questioning of Lord Falconer at the Constitutional Affairs Committee today.
dfh, Andrew Tyrie is underestimated. He's a constitutional specialist and |I'm not surprised he did well at the Committee. He's on the left of the party and has been unjustifiably ignored by successive leaderships. Used to be a Treasury special advisor.
Thanks for that. Just out of interest, does anybody else use the phrase “on the left of the party” as their safe words?
Did Dave the Chameleon get permission before he used a public asset - namely a Royal Park - for his broadcast?
The Labour boradcast just shows how pathetic, desperate, nasty, childish and vindictive Bliar & the Labour regime really are, this will backfire big time, yet another bad move by Bliar, the worlds most incompetent man, for 'personally sanctioning it', keep it up Tone!.
it occured to me that as the Government funds these particular broadcasts for the local elections, that is what they should refer to. Is this just another example of Labour sleaze
