Mail on Sunday Revelations Will Force Prescott's Resignation

I understand that in tomorrow's Mail on Sunday Tracy Temple rates John Prescott's sexual performance and also reveals what he thinks of his Cabinet colleagues. You'll remember that David Blunkett resigned last time, not because of what he had done, but because he lost the support of colleagues after his thoughts about them appeared in Stephen Pollard's book. Prescott is toast. Expect his resignation tomorrow.

UPDATE: 22.20 From PA: In an extensive interview with the Mail on Sunday, Ms Temple claimed, among other things, that the couple had sex in his Whitehall office, that Prescott had sex with her immediately after taking her to the Iraq war memorial service and that they had sex in a hotel while his wife Pauline waited downstairs. She revealed she had kept a series of diaries, from which extracts were published in the paper. And she declared: "I don't regret having the affair. It wasn't aserious relationship. "There were moments when I thought to myself 'I shouldn't be doing this' but I didn't feel it was wrong.''

UPDATE: 22.30 Tracy Temple has recorded a video in which she looks rather less glamorous than the previous images we have seen of her on TV. To be honest she looks at the end of her teather. In the video she says "I was not responsible for this story. I've had to live with the lies and the misinformation that was actually written about me, causing damage to my reputation and possibly my future career. Therefore, as a result, I felt I needed to tell my side of the story and let people know the truth. But I never, ever thought that I would have had to do anything like this."

No. JP doesn't have as many fans in the Labour Party as you might think. But a paid witness for the prosecution peddling hearsay isn't going to do it. Actually, if that's the worst of it then JP will be humiliated, will have to grovel to colleagues but he wouldn't have to resign.

There is a big difference between the parties - Labour members don't approve of affairs but they don't take the moral stance of the Tories. The Tories of the "back to basics" era resigned because of Tory pressure, it was nothing to do with Labour.

Fascinating article about the abuse of patronage on the Indy website:

Any thoughts as to who would be a favourite to replace him?

I wouldn't bet on it happening any time soon Iain, look how long it's taken Tony Blair's Italian chum to resign...

The BBC just reported that Tracey Temple has said that Prescott abused his office, I think this one could go down to the wire...

Milliband or Benn, or how about , Tony gets really pissed, smokes some dope and for a laugh makes Dennis Skinner foreign secretary and David Lammy home secretary?

Wow. I turned over to News 24 to find them leafing through the Mail on Sunday reading out a variety of salacious headlines such as "John should have kept his trousers on".

Maybe this is all Tessa Jowell's fault: "The BBC should take fun seriously, ingraining entertainment into all its services," she said.

Incidentally, in the light of the first line of Iain's post - "Tracy Temple rates John Prescott's sexual performance" - I should clarify the headline about the DPM's trousers is apparently attributed to his sister - just in case anyone got the wrong idea.

"Another friend told The Times: “John Prescott is a loyalist and Tony Blair regards him as a partner"

"partner" perhaps there is more to this than meets the eye, personaly I see Big John in the driving seat in that coupling.

The BBC are now suggesting there is nothing politically important in the article.

Anything in Guido's innuendos? I noticed some hint in the same direction in todays Times.

After this week, I do not expect JP to go...only Tories fell on their swords...this lot do not. JP has not been anywhere near as shocking as Hewitt and is light years away from Clark and they're still there. New Labour have just introduced us to new standards in public life...we have become European now where scandal and incompetence do not matter.

"John was a considerate lover and always used to sleep in the wet patch"

Clarke hasn't gone, and probably won't. Prescott will not go either; it is not in the nature of this government for any Labour person to take responsibility.

Prescott will get away with it because, in the words of the PM "John is John".

BBC News 24 are doing all they can to play down this story and defend Two Shags

The person I feel sorry for is David Davis (the FA one). Will Alistair Campbell stop at nothing?

What about a cabinet job for Sven "shagger" Ericsson?
He is out of a job in 3 months time , used to spending time with overpaid incompetent wankers, dodgy taste in women and loves travelling the world making a complete c*** of himself, ideal for politics.

The Morningstar said...

I'm still not so sure that Prescott won't go, he's pretty thin skinned in some ways and he might just feel that he has to go...

Chris Palmer said...

If Charles Clarke hasn't gone, then it's hardly likely that pork chop Prescott will go, is it?

According to the BBC News, John Prescott is "deeply sorry". I bet he is the bastard. He's only "sorry" because he was caught.

John Reids Dealer said...

He is a vile individual, he is also incompetent, however, I do not see why a bit of shagging should be the reason he has to lose his job, unless.
oh f*** it
I wish they would all piss off, get real jobs and leave us all alone.

There appears to be nothing in the Mail on Sunday of the nature of Blunkett-style remarks about other members of the Cabinet. So, unless these are being held over until the final edition, or Prescott resigns of his own accord, I think he is safe.

There is something about Prescott getting government drivers to take the lass home, but this sounds too trivial to force a resignation.

I have a theory. We're told John Prescott has two homes, two Jags, two lovers etc. So perhaps there are actually two John Prescotts, identical twins who job-share?

houndtang said...

Prescott may be appalling, but he shouldn't have to quit over this. It's a sorry state of affairs when having an affair is a resigning matter but letting loose 1000 criminals to wreak havoc isn't.

No news about Rosie? Have we been led up the garden path?

Iain, I know you are wetting your pants over this but come one! Let he who is without sin cast the first stone etc etc. We all know here are senior tories at it and ague was getting his leg over with his private secretary so don't go on about the role of politicians and civil servants. it happens in liofe, get over it

Christ, if this was a tory deputy prime minister p[eople likie you anonymouse would probably be foaming at the mouth about the outrageous lack of morality and judgement.

Let's save 4 times a night Prescott! The last thing we want is someone competent as Blair's deputy who might actually beat the ever-failing Brown in a leadership bid.
