The Future of the Special Relationship

Dateline: 2 March 2010. British Prime Minister David Cameron meets US President Condoleeza Rice for a summit. Subjects under discussion included pulling British and American troops out of Iran, Tony Blair's upcoming war crimes trial at The Hague and the seventh series of Desperate Housewives. Well, actually, the picture was taken today at the American Embassy. But I wouldn't bet against the same photo being taken in four years time.

Bridgford, I suspect neither of them will have to wait that long. How do they get Madame Tussaud's dummies to look so unlike real people?

Condi for pres? I don't think so.

Sure, she's smart, and fielding a black woman would be a good tactical move on the part of the Republicans, but setting aside the fact that she claims she has no interest in running for elected office, nobody actually knows anything about her politics.

We know, pretty much, roughly what her opinions on foreign policy are, and she has spoken publically in support if the second amendment as an individual civil right, but that's about it. She has no history of opinions on fiscal policy, on the balance of power between the states and the federal government, on abortion or gay rights, on immigration or anthing else. She's far too much of a dark horse.

I am afraid more to the point she is unmarried and that would rule her out from winning and probably from standing. Sad but true. Although I also think she projects little personal warmth which doesn't help either (I stress "projects" - she may very well be personally warm and charming).

I actually have a snap of a more likely combination, McCain and Ming (okay the latter as Foreign Sec maybe!)
