You Don't See Political Ads Like This Anymore



This Ad was from the 1976 Gerald Ford campaign. Amazing how American political adverts have changed in 30 years. I wonder what they'll be like in 2036!

Yep, you certainly wouldn't see US presidents offering to try to ease tensions in other parts of the world and bring peace these days. That would be just too wussy for words.

Well, the music/song was terrible, but it is America and it was the 70s after all!

At least Ford was actually trying to sell a positive message for once! Unlike today where, correct me if I'm wrong but, in the US it seems whoever manages to smear their opponent the most wins the election.

Although one thing Ford and Bush have in common is the severe doubts over whether they are intellectually up to it. Ford blew the 1976 presidential debates by saying "There is no Soviet domination of Eastern Europe". That clip really is painful - he was even given several chances to retract it by a bemused presenter.

SOUND. It features Ford toasting the Queen! John Howard doesn't even try to do that in his ads....
