Alastair Campbell on the Politics Show

A superb performance by Alastair Campbell on the Politics Show. He absolutely floored Jon Sopel on political funding. I didn't agree with everything he said but you have to admire the way he turns the argument back on the journalist. He did this very simply, by asking Sopel if he had checked the facts from the Sunday Times story he was taking as gospel. Sopel clearly had not and instantly changed the subject. I've never been able to understand why politicians don't do that more often.

Bliars puppet master sure has the gift of the gab ill give him that.
Pity he is a nasty left-wing extremist piece of work.

Could it be that he (Campbell)was simply highlighting the difference between commenting on the stories making the news and reporting on the stories making the news. Peter Wilby has written a very good piece on the decline of 'expert' journalists in this week's New Statesman - it is woth a read.

Mike, believe it or not I have already read it as I have a sub for the New Statesman!
