Stanley Johnson was at the BBC City Hall shindig last night. One of my friends mischievously asked him if he might throw his hat into the ring to succeed Boris in Henley. My friend expected him to laugh uproariously and dismiss the idea out of hand. Apparently, he thought it would be a thoroughly good idea! Stanley for Henley? At least they could save on the cost of the posters - VOTE JOHNSON!
UPDATE 2.28pm: Jonathan Isaby has spoken to Stanley Johnson
HERE. Stanley confirms he would like to stand!
"Put it this way, I'm still on the candidates' list. Obviously it would be up to the Henley association as to whether they invite me for interview, but I don't see why I shouldn't put in for it."

Why not! He stood in Teignbridge (I think) at the last election.
Surprised you haven't mentioned that Boris is 10-4 ahead of Ken on early counting of the Mayoral Election votes..
And the Labour Party have now lost over 200+ councillors !
Only a few more minutes before the Conservative gains hit the double century mark...
Wasn't Anthony Worrall Thompson talked about for that seat in the past?
Yes, he stood here in Teignbridge (and bloged about it). We (Lib Dems)really liked him, nevertheless wanted to keep our very hardworking local MP- Richard Younger-Ross who increased his majority. It was a colourful campaign.
Scary Thought No1
Tony Blair will make his come back at Henley or perhaps Gwyneth Dunwoody's old seat.
-He can take all his money now, before having to declare it in the book of members' interests.
Returning refreshed and far wealthier. Once more into the breach...
This "we must have more scrutiny of Tory policies" line being trotted out from from Labour is really bizarre.
Brown and co are basically saying to the vast majority of the public that they are too stupid to understand who they wrongly voted for, and need 'educating' on the errors of their ways
Maybe I should stand!!!
