But hasn't Dave already decided that anyone who isn't called 'Greg Dyke' isn't good enough ?

Surely what we need is a televised hustings on Doughty Street with some of that facile 'vote to evict x, phone this number' nonsense.

And a light going out on the losing candidate so we don't see their tears of pain / relief at not being chosen.

Why do they need an official Tory candidate anyway ? Couldn't all 40 be on a very long ballot paper, as was used in the first democratic elections in South Africa ?

Then the people could decide ?

SO we get someone as Mayor of London with 1000 votes?!

Yeah, GREAT idea..

Why aren't there any black candidates in the frame ? Isn't it time for some affirmative action to help represent the diversity of London's population ?

I think gay, black, ethnic minority and female candidates should be fast tracked past the hustings stage to overcome any institutional prejudice and ensure they get a fair crack of the whip in the final ballot. It would help ensure that the rich and vibrant diversity in the electorate for London Mayor is fully represented

"Why aren't there any black candidates in the frame ? "

Colour of the candidates is not important. This is a racist comment.

"Isn't it time for some affirmative action to help represent the diversity of London's population ? "

No.

Iain you missed out the last bit of the timetable:

*The Conservative Party Candidate will lose to Ken Livingstone in the London Mayoral election, starting in 2008.

Iain, Is it not time to produce a 'runners and riders' guide for us to see who is in the frame to be London Mayor ? Guido suggests that there are some 40 candidates, but I haven't heard of over half of them.

"Colour of the candidates is not important."

Fine, and one of demonstrating that would be to ensure we don't have an 'all-white' shortlist.

"This is a racist comment". Don't be ridiculous - how could avoiding an all-white shortlist be anything of the sort ?

This appears to have been rushed out.

At least make up a name so we can distinguish one anonymous from the other.

Is there a real conversation going on in here or just one guy talking to himself? Who knows!

Steve Norris is the only way we can win now.
