Tory Candidate Dies at Age of 40

Sad news to report. One of my fellow candidates at the last election died yesterday at the tender age of 40. Gillian Shaw who fought Amber Valley in 2001 and 2005 and found she had cancer shortly after the last election campaign. Her opponent, Labour's Judy Mallaber said: "She struggled bravely through the election campaign last year even though she was clearly in considerable pain. We were all shocked to learn her illness was so serious." She is survived by her partner, Amber Valley councillor Nigel Mills.

Sad news indeed. Gillian did very well to halve the Labour majority. I have lost 5 friends to the big C - all under 40. It makes you think hard about what is important in life.

Very sad to hear. She fought her illness very bravely. She'll be missed by all in Derbyshire

Thank you for posting this Iain. Gillian fought Amber valley in 2001 when I fought High Peak. She was a genuine and warm woman, and very brave in the face of her illness. She will be missed.
