Tweet of the Day

"Gordon Brown told GMTV he had spoken to S. Cowell to check on Susan Boyle's progress.' What the hell has it got to do with the PM?"

Either

a. Brown thinks he is a celebrity and that people get a kick out of him calling, or

b. Brown thinks his soothing words have healing powers, or

c. Brown is chasing the Jack Tweed vote.

Piers Morgan on GMTV said that he had spoken to Brown. Brown rang Piers. Whatever.

Picking up babies and cuddling them last week, concern over SuBo, interviews on GMTV ... is there an election on or something?

Anonymous said...

Yeah, is on the Sky news site.

Shamelessly cut & pasted from what I posted on Guido's site....

Bl**dy hell. Just read the sky news site about Susan Boyle.

Apparently the Mentalist was on the phone to Cowell & Piers Morgan last night to “make sure she was OK”

Now, much as I hate BGT and the car crash TV associated with exploiting Ms Boyle…..

Hasn’t the Mentalist got better things to do?

He’s not seen for nearly 10 days, the country is in it worst financial mess for decades, parliament is going through the worst expose for nearly 300 years and it turns out he’s been worried about Britain’s Got Talent contestants?

Puhhhleeeazzee give me strength.

It’s just the lowest of the low I think.

What about that woman who is supposedly too stupid to look after her own kid? Did the Mentalist phone her up?

Does he phone up Afhgan civilians?

Much as I think Blair is a t*sser, not even he would stoop this low to try and get coverage.

Where’s your moral compass you complete idiot???

As well as being PM Gordon Brown is a subject of her majesty that is entitled to have wider interests than 24/7 politicking. And Susan Boyle clearly does need watching. 100 Million hits vs about 5,000 last time he tried his hand at YouTube if you want to game. His mistake? Not offering a disheveled midnight croaky-oke rendition of something from Cats.

Gordon Brown takes an interst in Susan Boyle.

The reason is quite straightforward. One is an individual from a small Scottish town who is suffering from delusions of grandeur after taking part and coming second in nothing more than a popularity contest and will undoubtedly end up resident in a mental institution.

The other is Susan Boyle.

Just listened to Adam Boulton interviewing Brown and it concluded with a question about D Day, Brown saying that he would have to ask French Government about failure to invite Queen. Yesterday, of course, he told Marr that would have to get a statement from the Palace. I belive this single act might be one of the nastiest things for which he is responsible and it does beg the question - why couldn't he talk to the Palace as easily as he can waste time talking to Cowell/Boyle etc.

It really is marvelous to see Britain's Prime Minister try to pander to the electorate in this way. Are people really going to think,

"What a nice man to be so concerned about his fellow Scot. Despite the cataclysmic failure he's been, I must vote for him this week."

I have just read Boris Johnson's article on Simon Heffer. It is the funniest thing I've read all year. I think he's probably getting back at Heffer for criticising him just days before the Mayoral elections, and having to take the wrap for that Liverpool "victimhood" thing in The Spectator (which Heffer actually wrote).

If Heffer values his reputation, he simply has to stand.

Poker players often talk of "tells" - ie - when their opponents give away things via body language.

Brown has a classic "tell" - that inane and deeply disingenuous grin. Just watch any of his speeches, or his TV interviews - like the one with Marr

"..offends my Presbytarian conscience...." grin

I never thought I could be so repulsed by a politician. Brown makes me feel physically sick.

Some left wing tool was just on Simon Mayo's left wing show (some prat called Jonathan Coe) slagging off Thatcher blaming HER for the current economic mess. Mayo of course allowed this crap to be spouted without any cross examination.

Unsworth said...

What crass behaviour. Brown is utterly deluded - completely out of touch with reality. Here he is is spending his time ringing celebs to get them to check on the progress of other celebs - and wanting us all to know about it.

In the meantime the whole economy is going down the tubes - along with the entire Labour Party, there are elections going on etc etc etc.

This man is seriously mentally unwell.

Liz said...

I'm boggling at the timeline here - the Air France plane went missing well before he announced on GMTV that he'd been calling Simon Cowell on our behalf, but he didn't mention the air disaster at all in his TV interview and only got round to making a statement about it this afternoon.

You couldn't make Gordon Brown up.

Do you know what makes me utterly sick about this man? Its how totally shameless he is.
Yesterday we had the bizarre interview with Andrew Marr with Brown claiming that as far as MPs expenses were concerned he proposed changes long ago, he`d done this and he alone had done that. Etc etc, and than today as well as getting on with the job that hes always telling us about, he found time to get on the comfortable GMTV sofa and announce to the world that he`d phoned Simon Cowell and Piers Morgan to check on the wellbeing of Susan Boyles. How nice of him, but on the day that the latest victims of the fighting in Afghanistan were released, did he phone their familys to offer his condolences? NO. Has he spoken to ANY of the familys of soldiers killed in Afghanistan? NO. Has he been to Brize Norton to comfort the familys of the dead as their sons and daughters coffins are offloaded from the planes on their final journey home? OF COURSE NOT. Brown is scum. A worse opportunist than Tony Blair and thats saying something. WHY CANT WE HAVE AN ELECTION NOW?

Fox in sox said...

Apart from the issue of "getting on with the job" there is a serious issue of medical confidentiality here.

I understand that a woman is in a psychiatric hospital, in a delicate state. There should be no information released to any one, not even next of kin, without her express permission, assuming that her state of mind allows her valid consent. For a non relative to enquire and then apparently receive and dissemminate a report is a gross infringment of medical confidentiality.

The man should be ashamed of himself.

SHB said...

Iain, no blog on Brown's performance on 'Today'?

More of the same following on from the Marr interview yesterday. He even mentioned help for people with mortgage difficulties again - neither Marr nor Evan pulled him up on it - 2 people/families helped so far this year - circa 35,000 (anyone confirm) people have had their homes re-possessed YTD. Why does no one go for the jugular on this everytime he mentions it.

The loans and working capital facilities for small businesses is just as much of a joke as well.

On a seperate issue; is there anyway to get an FoI response to the Queen's non-invite to France before Friday?

Anonymous said...

Brown said on Sky that McBride was sacked. I thought he resigned. Big difference.

Did anyone get the real story through FOI?

The well-being of Susan Boyle is as much to do with Brown as Hoddle as England Manager was to Blair when he was P.M. - on GMTV too, I believe. Bugger all !
He disappeared off the radar for ages then, once he'd left it too late and even Cameron had made him look useless, he's suddenly appeared everywhere doing me, I, me, me, I. With over 40 ministers you'd think at least some of them wouldn't need him micro-managing every department and news item.
