I note that we're not discussing Hague's blanket ban on Euro-joining discussions. Presumably you are too embarassed by his obvious foolishness to comment Iain?

Bill Cash and the Bastards are still running the "reformed" Cameron/Bullingdon Tory Party apparently.

Lib Dem Voice is down, looks like they've not paid their bills!

Despairing Liberal, as I am on the record as saying I would NEVER, under any circumstances, vote to join the Euro, you can imagine that I very much welcome William Hague's comments.

That's fine Iain, so long as both your party and yourself are exposing your utter lack of credibility in governing by stating that you rule it out for ever, that's fine with the rest of us.

Now you and Silly William have gotten that off your chest, I feel sure we will be joining the Euro before 2011 under a Cameron government.

Bill Cash is 107.

The young man who has just started an SNP blog (very successfully) has made predictions:

Definitely worth a mention for the Scots who kind of get left behind at times with many blogs being centralised on Westminster.

Will Nickie Clegg refuse to rule out Elvis sailing up the Thames on Nessie's back in order to hide The LibDims utter lack of credibility full stop? New word for Limpdabs: principle. It means a line which will not be crossed no matter how many votes there are on the other side.

Gallim-thingy, I think you are confusing principle with intelligence.

The Tories have now ruling it out "for ever" just reminds us all of their painfully embarassing phase of no hope for government and underlines why Hague is always an accident in waiting. Time to put that baseball cap on William!

It must be strange being a Tory. Just when you think you are recovering some credibility, along comes another wierd embarassing faux pas.

Seriously though, I think William Hague, Duncan-Smith and Michael Howard already proved that pandering to the base won't get you elected.

I had a very vivid dream, last night, in which Cameron and Clegg announced that their parties would be fighting the General Election under one banner and would not oppose the sitting candidate be they a conservative or liberal democrat. They would also draw up a list of seats in which the LibDems would be in a stronger position to beat Labour and those which the Conservatives could win.

Under those circumstances the local organisations would combine to fight Labour.

Vince Cable did not agree and joined the Labour Party- from whence he came.

Dream over!

Strapworld, your dream isn't that unlikely.
And DespairingLiberal, William Hague warned against using the current crisis as a pretext for joining the Euro through the backdoor, something, from your post we can now see that Labour and some in the Lib Dems intend to do.

AProle, he ruled it out for ever, quote unquote.

Absurd - hard to believe he was once a Mackinsey consultant.

As for the unstable Euro entry theory, I don't buy it. Having parity is obviously the right time to merge, no matter how it arrived. And having sound fiscal policies from Germany would help Britain recover, not least because they would ban Gordie's ridiculously massive "planned" overspend which will only end up with massive tax hikes and dwindling public spending.

Another missed opportunity courtesy of our political class, whose main motive appears to be to not upset Murdoch, who is against the Euro, presumably because he could then no longer speculate in the pound.

Despairing Liberal, I despair. You clearly cannot see that this is not just an economic issue, it is one of enormous constitutional importance too. Some of us believe the latter outweighs the former. If we lose our currency we effectively lose our right to govern ourselves. We would no longer have complete control over interest rates and tax and spend policy. And isn't that exactly what government is - you say what you are going to do and how you are going to pay for it. Ireland no longer has a government worth its name. It is a subsidiary of the European central bank.

OK, I stand corrected by DespairingLiberal: the new word for Limpdabs is intelligence.
And every Liberal leader since Asquith has proved that pandering to anyone holding a stubby pencil in a voting booth with the words "Vote Liberal" won't get you elected either.
Strapworld: weren't you dreaming of the "Coupon" Election of 1918?
