Poll: Clegg Escapes Censure Over GQ 'Gaffe'

The consensus seems to be in the Cleggover Sex Survey that Nick Clegg's GQ interview hasn't done him any long term damage and that it was all hyped up by the media. Only BNP supporters believe Clegg has been damaged.

Do you think Nick Clegg's admission/boast of having up to 30 sexual partners will do him long term political damage? Those who answered 'yes'...

LibDems 13%
Greens 13%
Labour 23%
SNP/Plaid 26%
Floating Voters 26%
UKIP 34%
Con 37%
BNP 43%

The Media hyped up this story. Those who agreed...

LibDem 72%
Floating Voters 72%
Labour 72%
Green 68%
Con 55%
SNP/Plaid 51%
UKIP 52%
BNP 27%

It is repellent that a senior politician should talk about such matters. Those who agreed...

BNP 64%
Con 41%
UKIP 27%
Floating Voters 28%
SNP/Plaid 26%
Greens 20%
Labour 15%
LibDem 10%

"Only BNP supporters believe Clegg has been damaged."

Sorry to quibble, Iain, but this isn't quite right.

Your figures show that other party supporters also think Clegg's credibility has been damaged (Labour 23%, Conservatives 37% etc).

Your figures show that the percentage of those thinking Clegg has been damaged is highest among BNP supporters. That is not the same thing as saying that only BNP supporters believe that.

Well, the BNP are a bunch of virgins, they're bound to be embarrassed by these sorts of confessions...

This blog is pathetic.
The economy is collapsing and the government is in denial.
We are humiliated as a nation by the appearance of a Chinese para-military group with the government taking no action.
Tyranny rules in Zimbabwe and the government does nothing.
And what do you contribute.
A meaningless sexual survey and nonsense about your new car.
For goodness sake give us some meaningful comment

If you think it's pathetic, go and read somebody else's. I have blogged plenty about Zimbabwe and the economy. I do not provide a news service, I write an opinion column and diary. It does what it says on the tin.

Well said, Iain. Fun posts like this make your diary a must-read.

Iain,

You have two UKIPS in the last group.

I suspect one should be BNP.

Thanks,

:-)

If this blog was about tyranny in Zimbabwe all the time, I think I might stop reading it. With all the rubbish that is happening in the world today, its good to have some light relief.

Freudian slip on the last poll - UKIP mentioned twice instead of the BNP. To be fair, they're basicly the same thing - one for poor stupid white people in cities, the other for rich old white men. Both are irrelevant.

I'm very glad to hear that he's not damaged by it. He was laughing when he said it. It was a joke. Life wouldn't be worth living if the media succeeded in getting jokes banned. They're trying to get Boris to stop telling jokes by taking every light-hearted throw away line with deadly seriouslness. I see they're trying to stamp down on jokes in Australia as well by putting some po-faced malicious interpretation on their PM's mock salute in Bush's direction. Who do journalists think they are? The Taliban?

I think Iain that you are letting Clegg off lightly.

I read the results as showing that a substantial minority disapprove of what they hear.

There does not appear to be much positive spin for the Lib Dems

Just a query: did Mr Clegg include ladies on daytime tv and in lads' mags in his bedpost tally?

Desperate Dan, spot on with the laughing reference.

The neccesity to win political points has the potential to stop people ever speaking...
