Andrew Mackinlay is one of the few, very few, honourable labour MP's. I had many dealings with him in one of my previous lives and can only say that I found him to be very helpful, very good company and a terrific MP. Thurrock have got a good un!

On PMQ's I reckon Ms Harmon may well be given the top job. Brown will be absolutely livid!

Iain, while you were introducing him I had a strong certainty I knew this man. Then it clicked. The nodding, the wobbly jowls, the quick flashes of smile : Churchill, the Insurance dog !

Strapworld,
Andrew Mackinlay is honourable? My arse he is. He has never answered one of the many emails I have sent to him. Oh tell a lie, his wife or mother, I cant remember which, replied...once! The only reason she replied was to tell me that I couldnt talk to her husband/son (take your pick) "like that"! Like that? She meant that I didnt seem to understand the fact that when I asked "my mp" a question and he didnt answer the question, evaded the question and/or talked about something unrelated to said question it was okay. She meant that it was not okay for me to actually expect an honest answer.
I was rather under the impression that mp's were PUBLIC servants. Hmmmm? I suppose I must be naive.

Anyway, I went to see Mr Mackinlay at Westminster eight years ago. I was lobbying him about the English parliament. He did not even want to discuss the issue and constantly tried to divert the debate. He tried to softsoap me by saying that I could have anything I wanted from the Westminster House of Commons staff canteen as it was all on him! I think he meant that it was all on me seeing as his allowances were from tax payers monies! I resented the trick he was trying to pull.
Imagine that, me being bought off for a H.O.C. spotted dick?
The worst part of all was when he turned flippant after failing to con me. He talked to me like I was a dumb peasant then when it was obvious that I wouldnt take his cheapshots he decided that he didnt care what I thought. His line: "all those English parliament supporters are in the NF" has stayed with me ever since. Honourable he aint! What do you mean he's "very good company"? It is immaterial whether he's funny or not. It is what he is doing for England that counts. He does nothing for England! Thurrock is in England. I was born and bred in Thurrock!

To Anonymous 2.51 a.m. - Reading your entry I can see why Andrew Mackinlay (or anyone normal) doesn't want to talk to you.

Andrew Mackinlay came across as being eminently sensible.

I wish I could say the same about my local labour MP.
