Brown Creates a Department of the Prime Minister
Ben Brogan brings us the news that the Prime Minister has replaced his Chief of Staff, Tom Scholar, with Jeremy Heywood. What Ben does doesn't mention is that he won't be called Chief of Staff. Instead, he will be Permanent Secretary at Number Ten Downing Street. There's never been one of those before. Is this the creation of a Department of the Prime Minister? Even Tony Blair didn't go that far.

a.k.a. The Führerbunker
If true, no doubt it'll cost £300 million to brand all the stationary, create a website and build an office. Then it will be declared not fit for purpose, closed down, and blamed on Thatcher, who will also be asked over for tea and cakes.
Sorry if I'm being dense, but what on earth are you talking about? A name change is just a name change. There's an awfully long way between Number Ten and the staff that, say, the President of the US or the Chancellor of Germany have. Or Ken, for that matter.

Clearly getting a Blue Peter badge has gone to Gordon's head.

It's true that 'There's an awfully long way between Number Ten and the staff that, say, the President of the US or the Chancellor of Germany have.'
It's not true to say, 'Or Ken, for that matter.'
Lots of left-over communists and warmed-over trotskyoids among Brown's apparatchiks and appointees, just like Ken. Just like all the Labour party.
They haven't gone away, you know (to borrow a chilling phrase).
Hatfield Girl - Ken has more people under his direct employ than Gordon. Who happens to be employed is irrelevant.
