Help End the Brussels/Strasburg Waste of Money

Do you agree with the following statement...?

"It costs European taxpayers approximately 200 million euros a year to move the Parliament between Brussels/Belgium and Strasbourg/France. As a citizen of the European Union, I want the European Parliament to be located only in Brussels."

...then sign the petition here!

Couldn't sign it because I want the Parliament disbanded altogether and the whole European racket wound up. Locate it in the English channel.

And if I want it just in Strasbourg and not in Bruxelles?

Yes, I agree that Strasbourg should close, but I don't agree with the statement.

I will be an excuse for the COLLECTIVE, to state that the citizens agree with the concept of rule from Brussels

Presumably, the petition will be presented to the French Government who are the only people on the planet who disagree?

The bureaucratic get out clause for all these areas of enormous waste is always simplistically to express the costs involved on a per EC citizen basis - in this case approx 45 cents per head and then we are supposed just to shrug and forget about it.

What is invariably ignored is the fact that for a citizen in the UK, making disproportinately high contribributions to the budget, the cost is probably three times that amount. Exclude the 40% of the population in this country who don't pay tax and then factor in, say, a 100% understatement of the true costs involved and you arrive at a figure of around four Euros per annum.

This is around the amount most people spend a week buying their newspapers - and at a level where we would probably become very much more interested.

Help End the Brussels/Strasbourg Waste of Money

Do you agree with the following statement...?

"It costs British taxpayers approximately 3.5 billion pounds a year to cede our Parliamentary power from London/UK to Strasbourg/Brussels. As a subject of Her Majesty the Queen, I want my Parliament to be located only in Westminster."

...then sign the petition here.

Whilst I would like to sign this petition, by so doing would, in my experience, generate between 5-10 items of junk mail per day within 3 months and within 12 months this figure would quadruple.

Why, oh why, do they always require your email address - guard it with your life is what I say!

nsfl - I regard myslef as a subject to no one. Though I do support English sovereignty.

Peter from Putney - Either get a better spam filter or have two emails - one for important stuff and one for things like this.

I was at the Euro Parl in 2005 when Blair made a speech and even then some French MEPs complained that he should speak in Strasbourg rather than Brussels. I'm convinced the failings of the EU are down more to the anality of the French than anything else.

This is another of those twizzly little questions that help cloud the issue of sovereignty. It doesn't matter where the Nomenklatura sit, you are the servant of the Nomenklatura.

The only solution to the EU is get the hell on wheels out. Let them sink into their socialist hellhole. I'll bet you if you go, some of the newer EU countries who were begging to get in would get out too. The light should just about be beginning to dawn in the eyes of the E European taxpayers. Why would they want to support vast Magreb settlements on the outskirts of Paris?

I would sign it but I am not and never will be an EU citizen.

I'm not signing.

I don't care where our Euro-enemies congregate - I just want us to escape their malign clutches as soon as possible.

Sorry, Iain,

Like Anoneumouse I refuse to sign on the grounds it could be interpreted as my accepting rule from Brussels or Strasburg.

Quite frankly I don't give a damn where they put the bloody thing. They can move the damned parliament on a daily basis for all I care, so long as it no longer has any say in matters British and Brits don't foot the bill.

I shall be signing NSFL's petition though.

8 out of 12 commenters so far explicitly stating they want Britain out of the eu. Maybe a couple of possibles too.

Think there's a message for Dave in there, Iain?
