Is Labour Fearing the Worst in Blaenau Gwent?

There's growing evidence that Labour is becoming nervous about the result of the coming by-election in Blaenau Gwent. Daily Mail sketchwriter Quentin Letts rang the party managers running the campaign down there to see if he could watch their man on the stump, only to be told that the national press are not being given any more access to their candidate and that his movements around the constituency are now a top secret. So much for open democracy! Letts, who managed to sniff down the ultra-reclusive John Prescott during the general election (just followed the smell of chips!) is understood to be undeterred by Labour's ruling and is heading down to Blaenau Gwent in his smoky old Land Rover, undeterred.

Labour and the independent are both at 1.8 on Betfair.

More likely that Letts is a well known upper class Tory oaf. What possible reason is there for the Labour party to co-operate with him?

Let's hope that Chief Constable Brunstom has a police observer on hand just in case Mr Tony blurts out "Fucking Welsh" again if he looses.

Given Labour members understandable loathing of the Daily Mail above all other newspapers, it's understandable. As anon said, why co-operate with someone who will write up an article putting the local Labour Party in the least favourable light no matter what they say or do

Isn't it going to be a bit difficult for the Labour candidate to actually, er, campaign, if he doesn't want people to know where he is?

Call me naive, but I thought the idea of campaigning to get elected to something was that people could actually see and talk to you.......

And Anon - "well-known upper class Tory oaf" - actually, Quentin Letts is a member of the national Press, employed by a newspaper which sells several million copies per day. Nothing like reasoned debate to win people over to your side, is there?

We certainly didn't pick the right candidate for the parliamentary seat.

Furthermore, our candidate for the assembly is leader of the council. But whilst labour have been in power in the town hall there, massive poverty has remained.

Isn't Blaenau Gwent the seat next door to Chris Bryant's constituency, the Labour MP who sent pics of himself in his underpants on gaydar? Just thought I'd remind you all of that.

Well I'm glad letts is undeterred. Also the Daily Mail doesn't get several millions of readers a day, more like two millions. And thankfully there aren't any upper class toffs working in journalism in this country. Still nothing like a reasoned debate, eh jafo?
