Pass the Saucer...

I've been uncharacteristically uncharitable to putative Labour leader David Miliband in The Independent this morning. Having exposed the whopping cost of his blog (forty thousand of your taxpayer groats, since you ask) on Saturday, today the Indy pokes fun at the Miliblog's nomination for a New Statesman New Media Award. I am quoted as saying "I can't think of any normal person who would want to look at Miliband's blog... It reads like a random collection of press releases." I'm just off for my morning saucer of milk...

the thing is Iain, you're right. I've tired many times to read it. I thought maybe I just needed to work at it and it would come but alas it didn't. For some reason as well whenever I look at it I just hear the phrase "I'm a wide-mouthed frog" in my head.

Pandora did a great job in breaking this story.

I certainly believe Miliband is ineligible for the New Statesman award on these grounds. Interestingly, the award for elected representative was not made last year because it was felt there were no suitably high quality entrants.

£40,000!! Unbelievable. All he has to do is set up a blogger.com account and all it costs is the electricity for your PC.

Ellee / Iain - I notice you deliberately fail to mention that it was the Lib Dems' Chris Huhne who broke the story.

Inamicus, Nothing deliberate at all. Now that you mention it I do recall reading it on Elle's blog and am happy to pay credit where credit is due. I like Chris Huhne. In fact I had a nice little chat with him the other day in the GMTV studios.

£40 grand! What Paul said.

Having put up a few comments on it gently poking fun at his Luddite views (eg that catastrophic global warming is proven true because ITN did a feature about a family improving its carbon footprint) I don't think he has given you anything approaching competition.

Paul, sadly no, but he was already making excuses for the LibDem failures at next year's local elections!

40000 is an appalling waste of money. I have never been to his blog, but shall make a visit now to post a comment outlining my outrage at this waste of money. I think everybody who agrees with me on this issue should do likewise.
