Let Poor Old Ming have His Jag Back

The Sunday Times Atticus column has launched a campaign to Save Ming's Jag. They think that he is missing it and that's why he's been so 'lacklustre' recently. Click HERE to vote on whether he should be allowed to get it back!

If his performance on The Politics Show is anything to go by he may soon have more time to enjoy it. He was asked a question on Blair signing the animal testing petition and promptly started talking about the Gordon Brown succession. Jon Sopel felt embarrassed to have to tell him he'd answered a completely different question.

UPDATE 5pm: I have just been reading Nick Cohen's column in The Observer and he has this to say about Ming: Speaking of deadbeat Lib Dems, Simon Hughes will be on the Sunday programme this morning saying 'it is too early' to judge Ming the Worthless. No, it's not; he's a failure for reasons that are clear to anyone outside the liberal consensus. Broadcasters are not always as aggressive as they pretend. On every great issue, they choose a public figure to represent their views. He or she enjoys the easy life and august title of Official Spokesperson for the Media Class. So it was with Ming and Iraq. Go back through the archives of Channel 4 News, Today and Newsnight and you won't find an allegedly tough presenter asking him a single hard question. Not one. Naturally, the powder-puff interviews made Ming appear a formidable politician. It is only now that the luckless Lib Dems are discovering he is nothing of the sort.

Now he is really being ridiculed, poor guy. Polls like that in a national newspaper are not going to increase confidence within his own party.

Me thinks Charles Kennedy is having the last laugh over all of this!

Well, Sir Ming might have the same level of determination he had as an Olympic athlete; but does he have the same level of ability?

More pollution will be generated by building a new car for Ming than by letting him keep his old jag. So what is the point of all this?

More on the Cohenstory here.

The man looked like a right idiot on the Politics Show today. You have to feel sorry for him, he really is not cut out for the job.

It's just not fair to pick on "One Jag" (or is it none now?) What does he need a car for anyway, since he must qualify for his pensioner's bus pass by now?

Just like to point out that all the spellings of 'Ming' are incorrect. If 'Menzies' is pronounced 'Mingus' then surely 'Ming' should be spelt 'Menz'?

Hughes "to early to judge" isn't really supportive since he went on to say he should be given till Conference to prove himself. Since the next election is up to 4 years away this is more giving him enough rope than a long tenure.

However Ming's treatment of Kennedy means he is not entitled to loyalty in adversity.

*Speculation*I think Cohen is unwittingly playing into Hughes game. Hughes moderate tone is probably just his strategy to get just the reaction Cohen gave. In turn it will contribute to the building of momentum to rid themselves if Ming.

The LibDems will have another leadership election within 12 months.

This time it might be more interesting; It’ll be a two horse race between Hughes and a prominent Orange Booker (with the OB winning)…

This will set up things for a Tory/LibDem coalition government after the next election (hung parliament) and the eventual assimilation of rightwing LibDem (MPs) into the Conservative party once and for all (keeping Labour out of power for 20 years or more).

While I’m staring into the crystal ball, anyone want to know the lottery results for next week!?*/speculation*
