Nick Robinson has just reported that David Cameron is trying to persuade Boris Johnson to run for London Mayor. It would be a massive leap for Boris to take and involve a number of risks, not least to his own Henley seat. Boris is undoubtedly the most popular Conservative in the country and he would surely be tempted to run. The rest of us would relish the spectacle of a Boris v Ken fight.
I felt it would be worth taking the risk of promoting him to the Shadow Cabinet, but perhaps we now know the reason why it didn't happen. At least we can, unlike in the case of Greg Dyke, be sure that Boris is a Conservative!
So what does everyone think? Boris for Mayor?!
